12/20/05: More Holiday Fun From Toys 'R' Us!
Here's a slightly less old Christmas commercial from Toys 'R' Us than the one I reviewed on 12/7, noted mostly by the fact that Geoffrey has progressed from a crude cartoon character to the official mascot of the Milwaukee Brewers. Of course, Geoffrey has undergone even more changes since this period, most recently seen as a literal giraffe. I'm always going to be partial to the one on display here because that's the Geoffrey who persuaded me to buy the best toys of my life, but before I get too far off track, it's worth noting that this particular ad is less about giraffes and more about Mattel's Lil Miss Makeup doll.

Actually, the commercial is full of tricks. We start out in Grandma's kitchen, where Grandma's granddaughter and Grandma pretend they like each other for the sake of the cookies they've been fated to co-bake. The little girl proceeds to get a fairly undeniable demon stare going, and next thing you know, we're magically whisked away to a dreamworld version of Toys 'R' Us, where the wee lad is led by not-so-wee Geoffrey down aisles upon aisles of toys toys toys. Their adventure is cut short by a more standard product page pushing Mattel's whore doll, which had the ability to make lipstick and nail polish appear on its face with the addition of cold water. From there we land back in the kitchen to find the pokerfaced but obvious sworn enemies embracing, Grandma being particularly sneaky as she offers a gift with one hand and reaches for a knife with the other.

At least, I'd have more to say about the ad if that's how it went down.
