12/4/05: Underoos, Christmas Style!
Underwear has so rarely been an acceptable Christmas present for kids, but Underoos were for many years the sole exception. Branded with images of every cartoon character and superhero imaginable -- right on the crotch -- Underoos became the absolute standard for children who demanded a more poignant sense of style in their groin area. Back when society wasn't so twisted, it wasn't unusual to see the Underoos company parade young ones around n nothing but their intimates during the TV commercials, but thinking about what's now considered a no-no, it's impossible to not tilt your head even a little bit at the ads. Granted, there was never anything inherently "sick" about them, but in a world where you go to prison if a ten-year-old flashes you their forearm, seeing a bunch of first graders shake their Spidey-drenched asses on network television makes me want to call some group that uses a clever acronym for its name.

This particular commercial was filled with Yuletide cheer, or maybe I'm just thinking it was because all of the naked kids stood in front of a big ol' Christmas tree. An onslaught of underwearing children thank the people who gave them Underoos and the characters on the Underoos for making Christmas so merry, while the voice-over insists that everyone has the power to be a Christmas morning hero simply by giving kids underwear. The voice-over exaggerates.
