It's tough for newbie pranksters to resist the "Exploding Matches" gag. It sounds great, and it fills your head with all sorts of crazy ideas. What can they do? Will they actually explode in your victim's hands?

Well, don't get too excited -- they're not that great. A metal spring mechanism beneath the flap can be set to "snap" when the matches are opened, but any promises of an "explosion" are a stretch. In reality, the person you're fooling is only going to be curious as to why there's metal instead of matches inside of their matchbook. The device rarely works correctly, and even when it does, the "snap" is almost too gentle to even be audible. Along the lines of these kinds of gags, I've always preferred "snap gum" -- that works, and your victim gets his finger mangled in the deal, too!

The matchbook aims to please, but fails. With twisted symbolism, I will now burn it to death.
