R2-D2 Birthday Cake Candle (Wilton, 1980)
It might sound surprising, but Wilton's Star Wars candles were super, super popular in their time -- arriving in 1980 after The Empire Strikes Back swept the world, the candles were in a good position to conquer every preteen boy's birthday cake from here to there and even more over there. The centerpiece candles were large and made of an especially slow burning wax, and even came with various cardboard cutouts that could be fit over the name emblem to provide nearly personalized birthday messages!

Though the R2-D2 candle is neat and well detailed, it's easily the least interesting of the three featured in this article. Click around for the others. Or die. Wilton was notoriously awesome in handling every license they bought -- between the candles and the even more uplifting cake pans, Wilton were gods when it came to turning anything and everything kids love into a cake-related item. I love you, Wilton.
