Lots of Transformers Craziness To Be Found Within...
Matt - 05/24/00

If you've been reading X-E for awhile, you'd know that The Transformers play a major role on this site. Something about the show just clicks with all of us, keeping us fans years after the show went off the air, and probably for many years to come.

I was definitely into TFs as a child...I had the toys, went to the movie, watched the shows...but it wasn't until a few years back when I got my hands on all 96 of the episodes that I became a die-hard follower. Somehow, Transformers manages to be geeky and cool all at the same time.

That being said, I've got a few really cool Transformers media items for you guys today. I'm sure you'll enjoy it..

The episode we're going to take a look at today is another 'post-movie ep'. In other words, this episode was from season three, which takes place after the movie and uses a lot of different characters and different types of stories. If you read my last episode review on Call of the Primitives, you'll remember that I'm not too big of a fan of these episodes. They're definitely lackluster when compared to the first two seasons. For the most part, they were half hour toy commercials. Now, I know most cartoons are, but these episodes made no mistake about it, pretty much abandoning any creativity as far as storyline went to promote a few characters as sellable figures.

But, we love them anyway. It's Transformers, so how can we not?

Today's episode is from season three, and it's called Thief In The Night. In my view, this was one of the better post-movie episodes...it wasn't too ludicrous and it at least had a semblence of a plot. It's funny how we'll sit here know analyzing a show that was meant for six-year-olds, isn't it? :)

The Plot:

After the battle with Metroplex (the transforming Autobot city), Trypticon has been vanquished into the sea. But Decepticon Octane has found him, and has taken him to an oil-rich country, where they do the king's bidding in exchange for special energon. The Autobots catch on to what's happening after world monuments begin to disappear, and all signs point to a dinosaur Transformer. Everyone grows suspicious of the Autobot Dinobots. The other Decepticons find Octane and he convinces Galvatron he was scouting resources for him. The Autobots soon arrive with Metroplex, to do battle with Trypticon one more time!

Things to look for:

* Sky Lynx is an Autobot 'dinosaur', so he comes under suspicion by his teammates. Listen to his overtly faggy diatribe against the Autobots for even considering him to be a thief. 'But I am not a dinobot!'

* Metroplex's voice. I don't understand it. They always make the bigger Transformers sound like constipated boxers.

* Galvatron's voice. I have no idea what was going on with the voice actors for this episode, but Galvatron sounds a lot like a French version of Krang from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This is a far cry from Megatron, folks.

* When Trypticon gets injured in the final part of the episode, check out the wild dance routine he does. That's Transformers history.

Download:

The episode is divided into three parts, each about 7 minutes long. You will need RealPlayer to watch these, so make sure you have it downloaded before even trying to view the episode.

PART 1 - 1.6 MB
PART 2 - 1.5 MB
PART 3 - 1.1 MB

Enjoy!

No, we're not done. :)

Someone mailed me this giant package of Transformers stuff via e-mail, and I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw what it was...it's an actual Transformers audio storybook!

Some of you will remember these, but for those who don't, here's the deal: back in Transformers' heyday, there were children's storybooks with an accompanying cassette tape. I've got a full version of this up, page by page, with ALL the audio.

It's X-E latest section. You have to see this to believe it. :)
