NITRO Girls, Fly Girls...Bow Down to Your Masters...THE SOLID GOLD DANCERS!!!
Presented by liquorhead on 04/21/00

The 80s was a weird time for TV music shows. You had Soul Train and American Bandstand sputtering about, trying to remain hip. Sure, they had a good musical guest once in a while (Travolta?), but you had to watch castaways from your Junior Prom dancing away, telling Dick Clark that they thought Animotion's latest hit "had a good beat and you could dance to it."

Once a week, however around 7PM, came a show of a new show that attracted perfomers ranging from The Village People, Blondie, even Juice Newton! But any red blooded boy would admit that the real reason to watch the show, was the Solid Gold Dancers. Wearing pre-Prince super sexy outfits that showed plenty of skin, these enchanting creatures never failed to impress.

Solid Gold is as perfect of an 80s show that you could get. Andy Gibb even co-hosted the series back in 1984 (before he was dead), and even that Gay Puppeteer/Old Lady Puppet sensation Wayland Flowers and Madam.

Before MTV took off, Solid Gold was *THE* place to showcase your latest stuff to sell a record or two (what's a CD?). I saw Madonna for the very first time singing "Holiday" on the show. Even Elvis Costello and Frank Sinatra made separate appearances.

But those dancers. What is there to say about them, other than to open your mouth and drool?

Sure, the guys were freaky rejects from Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo, but the women were goddesses put on the earth to hypnotize the men and boys of the world, and forget about the horrors of 80s America.

In fact, words alone can't do them justice. Just check out the gallery link below and enjoy.
