02/15/2003 Entry: "Yeah."

Hey everyone, hope you all had a fun V-Day. I did - I got a glow-in-the-dark glowing brain toy. Anyway, this was on AOL's welcome screen today:

Holy shit, Maya Angelou = Madame Cleo. I didn't feel that my life would ever be complete without pointing that out.

We decided to use Saturday's version of the site to simply plug the week's past articles into the main box. Much simpler, and now I can go do other things, like fishing and hunting, and painting lions. The Classics thing has been updated, though. Enjoy. Blah.

Maya Angelou must be one of the worst poets to ever achieve such a level of notoriety. Her preachy poems and catalogs of random, empowering-sounding words are worthless.

She'll be doing a reading in my area on Feb. 28, 2004. I usually don't like plans that far in advance, but I know where I won't be that night.

Here's a kooky idear. I know snopes.com (The Urban Legends Reference Pages) has a 'randomizer' that brings up a random article out of the archives for you to read. Why not do something like that for X-E? Unless it's a really hard thing to do, of course.

I just saw Maya Angelou speak at good ol' Purdue University, and I must agree that her works are quite overrated. Perhaps it's because I would have rather been at home playing Animal Crossing, but I was really bored.

Hold on, now, Maya Angelou may be overrated and kind of pompous, but I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings is a damn classic, IMHO.

I do have to admit, though, that David Alan Grier's Maya Angelou commericials on SNL were hilarious. Her take on Butterfinger...great.

I agree with Mike, you're a bunch of greedy bastards...Matt, I don't think you should even worry about the weekends...leave the site as it was on Friday and pick back up on Monday. Fuck, you run the best website on the fucking internet ('cept for maybe britneydoesanna.com, but that's a whole other story) and you should be allowed to knock off for a day or two (hell, maybe three)if you want to.
Oh yeah, fuck the advent calendar.

I completely agree about David Alan Grier's Maya. The "Maya Angelou for Froot Loops" commercial is hilarious.

"Loops of fruit... FROOT LOOPIES!"

On a marginally related note, does anyone know if Froot Loops only had three color/flavors at one point? I'm only 24, so this would have been in the mid 80's. You know how the O's in the words "froot loops" are pictures of the actual loops... well, when I was a kid and I was studying the box religiously while eating, my aesthetic sense was always upset by the fact that two of the four O's were the same color. But what were the three flavors, or am I totally wrong?

Can they still call them Froot Loops when they keep coming out with crazy non-loop shapes? Have my memories been distorted by too many years of sniffing fruit-scented markers? And does anyone actually like those licorice scented ones?

I think you're right about the three colors thing. I'm 22 right now and I also studied all cereal boxes that I could get my hands on and I remember being disappointed how one color was on the box twice. I was so pissed off, why couldn't they just make another freaking color...it just never made sense.
In a related story, the best thing EVER to hit store shelves was the marshmallow Froot Loops. I had been praying for those since the mid-80's. Like Heinz, the best things come to those who wait.

I like the way this section is leaning towards cereal, such a great topic. Rygar, when did marshmallow Froot Loops come out?

Nowadays I grab my box of Blueberry Morning and cruise right on through the cereal aisle without looking at the other stuff. Too many of the delicious, non-nutritious candy-filled cereals go soggy in milk, and I can't stand that like I could when I was a kid willing to eat anything I knew was junk food.

Still, something I deeply loved in high school was Reese's Peanut Butter Puffs. I must have had them almost every morning junior and senior year. Now they seem a little on the kibble-y side, but they make your usual cereal milk into wondorous magical chocolatey peanut buttery milk. I deem this to be the nectar of the gods.
