08/26/2003 Entry: "New Article: Madd Matt reviews The Slime Pit!"

I told you I had Halloween on the brain already. Well, at least it's negligibly timely, as the new Masters of the Universe collection has finally ushered in what's surely its trump card: an updated Slime Pit! Read all about it, if you dare. Oh, interesting enough, the included package of slime is of the exact same proportions and in the exact same container as we saw with the Harry Potter Slime Chamber. This slime gets around. Anyway, kudos to Mattel for continuing to prove the cynics wrong -- the current He-Man line is, in my view, easily the best of the 80s revival sessions. Though I've yet to see Unicron first hand just yet...

I finally bought a flatscreen monitor and matched the color gamma shit to the same levels as 99% of Internet users, so if you always hated how washed out the pictures on this site seemed, be happy, that era is over. After hooking it up, I looked back at some older articles and was amazed at how off my settings were. IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN I PROMISE. Coming up next: a look back at a toyline you've probably never heard of, but one with a small following because of its connection to the famous "Micronauts" series. He-Man...Unicron...Micronauts. These be some lame paragraphs. Let me hip it up: sex sex drugs sex Adult Swim sex Crayola. There, I'm with it.

No word back from VH1 yet, and actually, we didn't even really get to have the full meeting thing with the blackout stuff going on, but who knows. I'm keeping the red dress clean just in case.

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 08/26/2003 03:09 PM EST

hehe Mad Matt in a red dress...I smell a future article lol!

Chestnuts roasted by Katie @ 08/26/2003 03:29 PM EST

Don't worry, Matt. Your site's becoming increasingly popular. I've been seeing to that (although some of my friends think you're a freak, but they think I'm a freak too). You've already got yourself close ties with UGO, so who knows what's next, even if it isn't VH1.

By the way, did you read my e-mail where I described my adventures with and showed you my pics of "Spader-Man." It's okay, you don't have to respond if you don't want to.

Oh yeah, and I'm glad to see more of Madd Matt.

Chestnuts roasted by Nate @ 08/26/2003 03:47 PM EST

So who is this white figurine? Is he a full on bad guy on Skeletor's side? Why would He-Man want to beat him up? Did he steal He-man's Ecto Cooler? I want answer's dammit, answers!!!!

Chestnuts roasted by eyeless @ 08/26/2003 03:49 PM EST

He was one of Tri-Clops' monsters that he used to try to beat He-Man and Cy-Klone.

Completely agree about the new MOTU line, its hard as hell not to buy the new ones I see on the shelves and save cash for college.

Chestnuts roasted by The Juice @ 08/26/2003 04:01 PM EST

You are using photoshop to blur out the color in your eyes right? You're not actually donning contacts for the Madd Matt madness?

OR ARE YOU!

OR ARE I?

Chestnuts roasted by spazzamatic @ 08/26/2003 04:06 PM EST

So, I don't get it. You have to slime it manually? You can't put the slime in some monster head and then pull a lever to have it open it's mouth? That sucks.

Chestnuts roasted by Mr. Mr. Mr. @ 08/26/2003 04:09 PM EST

Oh yeah the Vh1 deal... just dont go on mtv please.

Chestnuts roasted by Jared @ 08/26/2003 04:23 PM EST

yeah, what's up with that? if the slimer doesnt get to puke on the slimee, then there's no fun. but i guess madd matt doesnt need fun.

Chestnuts roasted by John @ 08/26/2003 04:24 PM EST

There's some kind of device with the dragon/spider thing atop that spits the slime, as well as a trap door that can let He-Man, covered in slime, fall to his death. (short death drop, but still a death drop) Madd Matt couldn't figure it out.

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 08/26/2003 04:26 PM EST

If you wore the red dress sans underwear, you could uncross your legs a la basic instinct.
Show those vh1 guys you've got balls... might wanna give your legs a quick going over with some nads first.
Great article! I think I like Madd Matt better than Pinata Hulk. He's got better gramer.

Here is an interview with the guy behind the remixed GI Joe PSAs:

Because of Matt I now hunt for Ecto Cooler. (Tangergreen Hi C aka..)

A Super Wal Mart and a Target store both failed me on this noble quest. DAMN YOU MATT!

And as for Unicron? He must be seen in person to be truely understood. That mofo is BIG. My only complaint with it is that it needs some paint washes here and there. I would do them myself but it would take me and my Gundam Markers the better part of a whole day off to do..

Chestnuts roasted by Bloodcat @ 08/26/2003 05:38 PM EST

How did lotsa legs get involed with he-man?

P.S. remember that article you wrote a while ago about cheap costumes from the $.99 cents store? Could you write another about scary costumes for under $5.00?

Chestnuts roasted by pikachulover @ 08/26/2003 06:04 PM EST

Definitely looking to more articles like that this season, PL. :) I'm currently gathering all the Hallo material needed for a full month and a half of horror fun.

If anyone has any other spooky themed article suggestions, fire away. (not really movie reviews, because at last count I've already got 10-15 must-do for this round)

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 08/26/2003 06:07 PM EST

VH1 should give Madd Matt his own show. Life would be good.

BTW, great article. But where's the dead fish gallery? ;)

Chestnuts roasted by Melanie @ 08/26/2003 06:17 PM EST

Not that I really want to talk about the Slime Pit, though my brother did have the original, but I don't think it was the most durable thing in the world because I don't remember him playing with it for long. Or maybe it's just it's useless when you run out of slime.

Just wanted to point out, sadly, that schizophrenic Chicago novelty pop singer Wesley Willis died from chronic myelogenous leukemia. I noticed that there was a X-Entertainment piece about him (though written by "liquorhead", not Matt). I only really knew him because his "Alanis Morissete" video (a song about, not with, Alanis) was featured on Ed the Sock's annual Fromage special on Much Music, showcasing the year's worst achievements in music videos, a couple of years back, but, still, it's very sad. :(

Chestnuts roasted by Steve Brandon @ 08/26/2003 06:51 PM EST

How about an article or two on haunted houses? Im sure wed all like to see Matt in Ghostbusters costume walking around New York. http://www.hauntworld.com can show you some of the creeptastic attractions around you. Halloween peeps can also warrant a small article in the blog update. Night of the Creeps is a great movie. Did Hamtaro ever have a Halloween misadventure?

Chestnuts roasted by Zombie Clay eats brains @ 08/26/2003 06:52 PM EST

Oops... didn't notice that Julia Badtouch already noted the passing of Wesley Willis a couple of blogs back... well, it was news to me.

Chestnuts roasted by Steve Brandon @ 08/26/2003 06:55 PM EST

great article although a few too many legs. ;) Sucks about Wesley Willis, I loved his mcdonalds song.

Chestnuts roasted by heeloyd @ 08/26/2003 07:00 PM EST

Very simply, I want to see Matt go trick-or-treating. Maybe in Atlantic City?

Chestnuts roasted by Mr. Mr. Mr. @ 08/26/2003 07:05 PM EST

matt trick or treating would be the best thing ever. or at least since the last time I went trick or treating on thanksgiving...damn that was cold. but we got a good house to prank for the next year, after the owner threatened us....dman was he in for it.

Chestnuts roasted by brandon @ 08/26/2003 07:15 PM EST

Oh, man, my sisters and I wanted the Slime Pit, but Mom said no. Too messy. I doubt my brother will get one, either, but it's still cool-looking.

I got to introduce my brother to the "He-Man" cartoon franchise late last year. We have the live-action movie, but he'd never seen the cartoons, until one night right before a football game. He was watching the new "He-Man" cartoon on Cartoon Network, and I told him I used to love "He-Man" as a kid. He asked me who all the characters were who weren't in the movie, and why Skeletor had that laugh. We had a great time.

I agree that these new He-Man figures are great, some of the best revivals of any 80s toy line. I've been tempted to pick up a few myself.

Oh, and many of you will appreciate my brother's current favorite show (speaking of 80s revivals) - "Transformers Armada."

Halloween requests? I also second the call for a decent costumes for $5 or less article, and a story about trick-or-treating on Staten Island. I haven't been trick-or-treating since I was twelve, but I do give out candy for my folks (who take my brother out) in costume.

I'm still going to wait a few weeks to break out the fall decor, however. Yes, I want the leaves to start turning colors and THE DAMN TOURISTS TO GO HOME!!!!, but I have Labor Day to get through before my mind turns to pumpkins, costumes, and school.

Chestnuts roasted by starwenn @ 08/26/2003 08:25 PM EST

YEAH! Matt trick-or-treating would be great! OH! better yet, Matt can decorate his car with many a halloween decoration and we can see digital images of him cruising the streets, all while blasting one of those spooky music cd's. OH! WHILE DRESSED AS TEEN WOLF!

Chestnuts roasted by wack0 @ 08/26/2003 09:10 PM EST

or instead of spooky music he could play the themes from some of the shows reviewed on the site. And have a water cannon shooting ecto cooler at people as they walk by. great stuff me thinks...

Chestnuts roasted by heeloyd @ 08/26/2003 10:04 PM EST

Great stuff as usual Matt. Were you wearing white contact lenses for that??

As for articles... Maybe another top eleven of the worst halloween masks/costumes.

Or maybe a comic thing like "Rudolph Saves Halloween" (ie, forcing Halloween on a character who is so obviously missplaced).

Chestnuts roasted by The Ponderer @ 08/26/2003 10:05 PM EST

Wesley Willis can't be dead :-(
Jesus, that creeps me out. That's the same feeling I got when Douglas Adams died. People with that kind of presence are supposed to live forever. If Wesley Willis can die, then, baby, it proves that death ain't limited to old people and drunken teenagers in horror flicks.

Chestnuts roasted by Master H @ 08/26/2003 10:57 PM EST

So what is the VH1 deal? Rememberin' the 90's?

I think they are doing a hell of a job resurecting the Turtles. Cartoon, comics, toys are all aces. Robotech is building up steam as well, although I realize you don't do Robotech. Shame. You should check it out.

Chestnuts roasted by Pat Brown @ 08/26/2003 11:56 PM EST

Oh Madd Matt! Is that the chain from a 70s era hanging lamp entangled around your post mortem neck?
Fun article. =)

Chestnuts roasted by felixecho @ 08/27/2003 04:50 AM EST

hey anyone who is interested theyve remade the unicron action figure. I saw it and the slime pit as well. the thing was huge and expensive, $55.of course it was a transformers armada figure it was awesome. truly a work of mini con stealing god

Chestnuts roasted by reso @ 08/27/2003 06:38 AM EST

Matt - you want halloween-grade scary stuff? Why not post my Hulkamania Alligator??? Now that's scary.

Chestnuts roasted by tdk @ 08/27/2003 08:36 AM EST

Matt, You should do a article on Spencers gifts halloween store. I have on in the mall near me and its the most awsome store I have ever been in. Only open from September 1st to Halloween the store is Mad Matts wet dream (Can he still HAVE wet dreams?). As you enter the store is filled with fog from a dry ice filled culdron, a huge dragon skull mask is hung from the rafters, HOT HOT HOT HOT goth chicks in full costume all day long every day man the registers and full sized chucky dolls line the lsles along with every dossable costume imaginable with a full arry of makeup and extras.

I don't know if your store will be AS cool but even if its half as cool its article worthy.

(It would be awsome to see Mad Matt in full costume go in there taking pictures :) )

Hmm halloween ideas, how about a "make your own gore" mini recipe book? Lil corn syrup here, lil corn meal there. Lots of food coloring and the occasional split pea soup...

Mad Matt has reminded me that my boyfriend and i need to come up with halloween costumes for the 80's halloween party and wedding we are going to in October. You guys are all creative. Can I get some suggestions?????? we were thinking Molly Ringwald and Duckie (ala Pretty N Pink)but i don't know if i want the red hair. Please help us!

Depending on how buff your BF is you could go as He-man and She-ra. :)

Chestnuts roasted by Mr Mango @ 08/27/2003 04:16 PM EST

okay here's what we do: send Matt into a haunted house, along with his photo-taking assistant, for the night. all he can take with him are three of his article toy pals... like a Pokemon, the spooky Santa, and the Skeletor with the wrong arms.

of course, he'd at first have to FIND a haunted house. better yet, make an 80s haunted house, complete w/Freddy. children these days won't have a clue what's going on inside. document the experience.

Chestnuts roasted by zann @ 08/27/2003 06:53 PM EST

Here's a fact about the slime pit that I haven't really seen mentioned anywhere, even though it's obvious: The Slime Pit is sculpted to look like Skeletor's throne from the new animated series. So even as cool a toy it may be, it also isn't just something useless, since it's modeled from something from the show.

Chestnuts roasted by Scelestus Unus @ 08/27/2003 11:41 PM EST

he's soccer buff, not really He-man buff, but I will mention that suggestion. it would be really cool.

Chestnuts roasted by t-rah @ 08/28/2003 09:02 AM EST

You should write an article about all of the stupid special addition "Halloween" themed junk all of us consumers always are suckered into buying. Examples: halloween oreos, paper towels, candy, wrapping paper..etc..

: ) I found Sponge Bob gummy crabby patties at my local grocery store, it was great. Individual little patties in a big yellow bag. All the sponginess one person could handel.

Chestnuts roasted by two_peep_army @ 08/29/2003 01:41 PM EST

I think it's a great marketing idea... The whole marketing for different seasons and it's a blessing in disguise for me an you consumer. If I'm gonna buy a box of Oreo's in June and it's in a halloween package I know to leave that bag alone! Never thought of it like that huh?!?!?! Anywho come check out my site you can learn about about why not to drink and drive.
