12/11/2003 Entry: "Advent Calendar: December 10th & 11th!"

More Advent Fun -- for December 10th, we've got everything from red creme-filled "Winter Oreos" to Santa Claus eating Oreos, plus a new friend for the cast of Playmobil. December 11th has a longer entry, covering the four new varieties of "Christmas Peeps," Mare's new skates, and an old McDonald's commercial where Mayor McCheese and the Hamburglar have a snowball fight. Kinda rushed, but for a good reason -- there's a Christmas article on deck that I've been waiting to write all month. I'm not sure how many of you will care about it; it's one of those "you had to be there" things. Then again, everything on this site is. Also: I'll be around for most of the weekend, expect some blogdates on the various snow/beer adventures and a look at some other crap I've picked up. The only way I could hate the paragraph I've just written more is if it was all one big sentence.

I need help. The advent calendar has been going for over a week but I’ve just now noticed that weird Santa head at the top of the pages, the flashing green eye blasts on the 11th’s entry helped draw my attention. I seem to have a faint recollection of owning one when I was real little but I don’t remember what it does. Anyone have any ideas?

I'd just like to point out that, technically, Christmas Tree Peeps are still based on living things. Just living things that were cut down, killed, decorated with shiny things, then woodchippered or burned. Or both.

A few comments.

First, wouldn't just plain ol' white-filling oreo's have been more fitting as "winter" oreos? White=snow, snow=winter, right? You're right, what's with the red filling...

Second, since they won't use the word Christmas, maybe they should stop using "winter" too. After all, people in the more tropical states don't technically celebrate winter. What if nabisco is offending them?

Those red oreos are weird, man. I definitely detected a lot of strange textures goin' on. I'd say its a failed experiment, but then, I didn't try to mold dolls out of the filling.

I'll never forgive Oreos after their Hulk promotion--you think you're getting green-filled Oreos, but it turns out you won't--unless you win their stupid contest (yeah right).

Damn the Oreo teases. I bet Mare works for them when she isn't waging psychological warfare on Mista Snowman.

Waaahh! The grocery store where I work has Snowman Peeps and Christmas Tree Peeps, but no Gingerbread Men or Cardinal Chicks(I think that's what they're supposed to be)! I fact, I didn't know the Cardinal Chick Peeps existed. I've never seen them at all in southern New Jersey. I'm a little wary of Peeps after the Cocoa Bats nearly sent me into sugar-induced coma, but the Gingerbread Men are smaller...

And so the Playmobil story continues. Does Mare have herself a man? Does Mista Snowman have himself an ally? Did the poor mound of snow ever get his darn hat back when Mare snared the ski stuff? What happened to Evil the Crow? The plot thickens, like pea soup or fog by the shore.

My family would never dream of leaving Santa store-bought cookies. That's practically blasphemy! My parents leave Mom's home-made goodies and home-made cookies given to us by by friends.

Matt, what does red have to do with winter you ask? The answer's right in front of you. Look at Mista Snowman. Red scarf. Snowmen almost always have red scarves when they actually choose to wear clothes.

I'll expect my cookies within the week.
