These first few insubstantial posters make me third post sick...

Hey Matt, not sure if you've answered this question before, but where did you get those SWANK~! 12 inch G.I. Joe's from?
Chestnuts roasted by Evan @ 01/30/2004 04:54 PM EST
They're available pretty much everywhere that sells toys. Amazon has all of the figures seen in the posts, and that includes the Gremlins.
Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 01/30/2004 04:56 PM EST
Can't say I was too interested in part one, but part two really takes the cake. I like how you tied in some of the characters from the beer article too.

Wowza, that was awesome. The part with the four Cobras under the blanket might be my favorite bit ever.
Chestnuts roasted by Grimace @ 01/30/2004 05:05 PM EST
I know those cobra soldiers are pretty big. I KNOW THIS. And I can see they are bigger than the chia pet. I CAN SEE THIS. I only goddamn wish it would make more sense to me when I see them standing beside the door. Is that door incredibly large? Is 12 inches smaller than I thought? Am I insane? Probably. Good article. Damnit.
Chestnuts roasted by Frog @ 01/30/2004 05:20 PM EST
dude, I cant believe it grew! chia pets can do no wrong
Chestnuts roasted by Emily @ 01/30/2004 05:21 PM EST
Matt -- great stuff, though admittedly I don't know Joe so I had a hard time keeping track of the characters. And the termite comic was f'n great.
Seriously, was anyone else more interested in the exploits of the termite than anything else in there?
Bring the termite back in two weeks, Matt. :)

Action figures : X-E :: Arturo Gatti : boxing.
Just makes it more fun to watch and overall more awesome.

Hey, peoples, Kay-Bee's declaring bankruptcy! All the stores here in the Sooner State are closing, and liquidation is gonna start at around 20-30% off. So, it's time for legal looting! Just thought I'd give you a heads-up.
Chestnuts roasted by kingklash @ 01/30/2004 06:09 PM EST
Nice one Matt! Gotta love Gremlins and OOOH Snake Eyes! Awesome. Oh and thanks for that exciting He-Man commercial, I almost forgot how truly lame Buzz-off was, almost. Hey, do you have a Moss Man commercial or is it too green so it can't been seen? I lost him in a tree stump somewhere, probably still there.
Chestnuts roasted by Ronald McTurdburgler @ 01/30/2004 06:10 PM EST
Oh man. :( Kids 'R' Us, and now KayBee? This doesn't bode well for the future, especially for those of us who aren't near a Wal-Mart. Got a news link for this info?
Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 01/30/2004 06:10 PM EST
Finally more about the cobra and their chi pet!!!!! woot!
Chestnuts roasted by LordSorrow @ 01/30/2004 06:20 PM EST
I read about it in the business section of the Daily Oklahoman, but they have something called News Ok.com or something like that for folk to gander at. I wonder how it will affect the industry in total?
Chestnuts roasted by kingklash @ 01/30/2004 06:32 PM EST
No more Kay-Bee? Shit! That was my only source for five-year-old Power Rangers Lost Galaxy toys! SHIT!
BTW, anybody else find the MOTU commercial hidden in the article title? That thing makes me want to run out and buy Buzz-Off right now!!
...but I guess I won't be doing it at Kay-Bee.
Chestnuts roasted by Chairman Kaga @ 01/30/2004 06:38 PM EST
My personal take is that electronics have just grown too powerful in the market. When a store devotes 10 percent of their space to video games and whatnot and that makes up way more than 50 percent of their profits, eventually, our beloved toys are gonna take the blame.
Sucks, really. Still doesn't mean that this is what happened with KayBee, who from what I can tell, are pretty piss poorly run. At least the stores around these parts. They just have no aggressive campaigns whatsoever outside the holiday season, and they're not particularly "known" for being good at carrying any particular line of products. Their strength was just in location, but because of all the malls and such that they rent out space in, they must spend a lot. When you look at the bigger toy stores, yes they cost more to rent out/buy/operate, but the rent isn't hiked by that "mall" tag. Just my eighty cents.
Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 01/30/2004 06:38 PM EST
This article has once again proved that x-e definitely is the dog's bollocks and also shitfucking a-a-awesome. For that I thank thee.
Now, if I could just find both of my old G.I. Joe comics..
Chestnuts roasted by iivuli @ 01/30/2004 06:42 PM EST
Muahah. Awesome.
Also: Aww, another 2 weeks. I think I may cry. One of these days, you just need to start writing, and not stop until you pass out. That'd be awesome. a 9 million word long X-E article.
Mmmm.... Million....

Reading through X-Entertainment I was BLOWN AWAY by recaps of the GoBots/Rock Lords movie and a recap of "The Worst Witch".
I have both on tape, still! Because of this site, I now have a reason to pop them into the VCR. As a kid I must have watched "The Worst Witch" a hundred billion times- so hopefully it's not in too bad a shape, quality wise.
"The Worst Witch", btw, is listed on the HBO Family channel all the time, as it's a regular series now or was at some point. Never watched it- but then it doesn't have Charlotte Rae of Tim Curry.

If being turned into a Gremlin doesn't drive Storm Shadow to switch sides, I don't know what will.
Chestnuts roasted by Gabbylicious @ 01/30/2004 07:41 PM EST
If you haven't seen this yet, you won't believe it. And you probably won't believe it when you do see it. I've checked and have it on good authority that this is a real theatrical production. Cick on my name to see it.

Neat partislly balding chia pet.
KB has been on the verge of folding for several years now, I am surprised they lasted as long as they have. They used to have decent clearances, though.
No photo update for a few days. My mother got rushed to hospital today so things are going to be hectic. I am going to try because I have some photos ready but just not sure I can get it done.

Chestnuts roasted by Zdubs @ 01/31/2004 01:48 AM EST
If I remember my comic trivia, Snakey had his vocal cords sliced while saving...uh, someone. Probably by Storm Shadow. But it's been like 15 years, so... :-P
By the way, this is the greatest epic trilogy since Lord of the Rings. Awesome work, Matt.

Snake Eyes lost use of his vocal cords on the first G.I. Joe Mission, when a chopper he was on with Scarlett and 2 other Joes started to go down. Instead of jumping clear, Snake Eyes stayed to help get Scarlett out of her harness, when one of the engines exploded in his face, thereby destroying it and his vocal cords. After many surgeries, Snakes now has his original face back (with a few noticable scars), but is still rendered mute.

Great work Matt! I love this stuff. First time poster, just letting you know you're being read in Norway as well.
Thanks to Sky Channel back in the day, I grew up with most all the same shows as you Yanks.

That sucks about KB, now where am I going to find 10 year old toys?
On a different note, while looking in the movie stor at the mall yesterday, i found ghoulies 1 and 2 on dvd for $15. Man matt, you review was right on about the sceen where everybody screams.
Chestnuts roasted by Bright Noah @ 01/31/2004 12:57 PM EST
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not make us wait two more weeks to see the end of this episode. Unless this means the Joes are growing their OWN chia pet to battle the cobra one and have to wait for that one to grow. Otherwise, don't make us wait, it's too much to bare!

rattus' post made me post again just to tell you that your site is also much appreciated here in finland too. My childhood years were also spent under sky channel influence so I too have a lot of nostalgic memories of the great 80's animated series including amongst others transfrormers and m.a.s.k. Thank you Matt for bringing up those great 1980's memories.

PS: I just want to add this. To anyone who replies to Matt's blog when they post first and say " Whoo, first post" or something to that effect, I just think you should know that you sound like a moron. Thank you

Class starts monday and I'm not ready :( To top it off, my roommate is good friends with the teacher and who calls here yesterday late afternoon when I am not at my best...Yes, I am ready for class, bite my ass. @#!@%#! Last semester this teacher told me not to use language like that in class. For saying pissed. Oh yeah fun fun.
Chestnuts roasted by Killer Duck @ 01/31/2004 07:42 PM EST
Snake Eyes was my favorite G.I.Joe when I was a kid. I just wonder how many people, like Storm Shadow, absolutely hate his guts because he gets A LOT more exposure than any of the other Joes. He's got that Boba Fett mystique about him (before they took it all away by making him a clone of his dopey dad).
By the way, the best Chia Pet in the world is the Chia Mr. T head.

My mother is home and better, thanks all for your thoughts. We were pretty worried because she's not well to begin with and her kidneys and liver are not doing well. Also this past September she had a heart attack so my father wasn't going to take chances. But they tested everything and all was OK enough for her to leave.

Good news on your mom, Duck. Good luck w/ school, too. Ugh, I hate pressure.
Any medical transcriptonists out there? I'm debating over whether or not to take the course and do it from home. All of that medical-lese makes me nervous, though.
OT, I'm anxious to hear what the Grem-bras are up to in two weeks. What else could they be doing that could take two more weeks? Hmmm... Unless the two week thing is a red herring and they're really going to sneak up on us w/ an update sooner.
Ok, I'm officially thinking way too much into this. Must. Stop.

For those of you who don't read my blog over at stupid5pin.com, I just wanted to let all you x-e'ers know that I'm back from the Judge Mathis show in Chicago. I'll let you guys know when it's on when I find out.
Matt, do you want that "toyaction.net" domain? I'm sure you could use it for this kind of stuff
Chestnuts roasted by Skitzo from stupid5pin.com @ 02/01/2004 01:51 PM EST
How much do you want for that domain, btw?
And I think these Chia Joe posts are some of the best things that the internet has ever, EVER, seen. Period.

I've already offered it to Matt for free, he'd just have to pay his registrar's transfer cost. For readers of X-E or S5P, I'd probably give it to you for 10 bucks plus you'd have to pay your registrar's transfer fee. Anybody else I'd sell it to for like 35 bucks. Interested?

Two more weeks? ARGH!!
The Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow two-pack comes with the GI Joe "Spy Troops" movie (which I would think came with Spy Troops figures) that Cartoon Network has aired recently. With suferboy Beachhead. Darn them! Beachhead was one of the reasons I watched GI Joe. They ruined him. RUINED!

And yes! Bring back the termite comic!

Mattt, This is what got me hooked on your site in the first place. You have done a fantastic job. And his hat still fits...that was great!
How can I find more of the little action figure sagas? You should put a link with all of your stories on them. Or do I have to search for everyone?
Great job Matt!
