I always misused rub-ons and similar things... always ended up on dressers, table tops, cups, etc.

I remember Monsters in My Pocket. Here (Perú) the came with chocolats. I lost all I had (It was many years ago) because they were tiny!

Rubdowns were the bomb! I never had too many of them, but I remember putting some on my teeth one time!

I always managed to somehow screw up my rubdowns. Was never quite able to rub them down properly, I guess...

I think I carried one of those Mall Discount cards in my wallet for YEARS when I was a kid. Probably because I desperately wanted to use it, but never had, ya know, money (I was luck if I made a 25 cent purchase at KB). That, and my sucky mall didn't have 99% of the stores listed.
Yelinna- Where in Peru are you at?
Chestnuts roasted by Mad Cow @ 06/29/2005 12:40 AM EST
Mad Crow--I know how you feel...I hated it as a kid when there was some national promotion for a discount on something, and we didn't actually have a store that the discount applied for.
I also remeber MIMP...Never had any that I recall, though.

I been catching up on this cerial prize project and saw the year 200O penny prize(group#4 prize 17). It should be noted that they came out with a penny and dollar coin combination. I actualy have one of which amazed me since they only made 5,500. I am never that lucky when it comes getting the good prizes. It has been sitting in my junk drawer till I readed the artical. I did a google search to see if is worth any thing(kind hoping for a few bucks). They are actually worth around 150 dollars. Nothing like finding money in a junk drawer. But apparently ,just recently, they discoverd since the usmint pressed these coins before any others they have a diffrent tail design. Now it is a major collectable. I think this is the few time that a Certificate of authenticity on a cereal premium actually means something.

What the hell was the other set of small figures (along the same line as muscle and MIMP)??
All I remember from the commercial is it was animated and the figures had a robotic type body with an animal head (I think).
One of the lines from the commercial went "Water beats fire, fire beats earth, earth beats water" or something like that. I believe Air was left out as an element. Anyone remember this crap?

Well. I. Never. *drops monocle in glass of wine and faints*
I don't know if you could call Monster Mountain a playset, since it's more a display shelf and it doesn't appear to do much, but it looks cool. I bet you could turn it around and call it a crumbly Hershey's Kiss.

Anyone remember the M.I.M.P. Nintendo game? I remember reading about it in Nintendo Power and being totally sold that I had to have it, although I don't remember it as being a terribly good game. Oh well. And Battle Beasts were the coolest; they were the the only toy I can remember that ever rivaled Transformers in terms of my childhood toy lust.
Chestnuts roasted by Red Menace @ 06/29/2005 12:16 PM EST

Man, that Mall card brings back memories of the now dead stores of my youth. FOTOMAT!! I remember those little huts in the parking lots of all the grocery stores and strip malls. And RECORD TOWN, wow, that was like the ghetto Record World (and Record World was already pretty crappy -- I was so psyched when a Tower opened at my local mall).
Unfortunately, I can't say I remember an establishment called CORN DOG ON A STICK. A googlevestigation reveals locations in Detroit and Tukwila, Washington. Weird.

Red Menace: Not only do I remember the MIMP game, but I remember seeing kids play it on Nick Arcade!
It had always gotten decent reviews (not great, jsut decent) so I downloa--obtained it legally, and it's... well, a decent little game. I don't think I would have been too happy if I had bought it when I was younger, though.
Oh man, Nick Arcade. Matt: have you done a Nick Arcade article yet? That would be a pretty sweet article.
Remember those pathetic "videogames" the contestants played that were obviously made for the show? That was always slightly embarrasing to me.
Come to think of it, almost the entire show was like that... but when they had the first real look at Sonic 2, you better BELIEVE I watched.
Chestnuts roasted by Night_Trekker @ 06/29/2005 06:08 PM EST
Oh man, check out the description of the Great Beast:
"An swesome, very powerful monster with many POISONOUS HEADS AND WINGS."
That's right, his HEADS were poisonous, and if those didn't get you, his wings would!
Chestnuts roasted by Night_Trekker @ 06/29/2005 06:15 PM EST
Oh man, Nick Arcade. One of those shows I couldn't help but watch, despite the fact that it invaribly led to anger and frustration that any kid could be so bad at a video game. Not to mention the token super-excited over-enthusiastic "hip" young host, clearly the product of a marketing meeting probably remarkably like the "Poochie" meeting from the Simpsons. Lord, don't get me started.
And thats not a bad idea Night, I may have to "legally obtain" a copy of MIMP to play on my "NES", if only for the nostalgia factor.
Chestnuts roasted by Red Menace @ 06/29/2005 06:39 PM EST
I remeber the NES game but don't remember seeing actual toys. Didn't the NES game allow you to choose from Drac and Frankenstein's monster? I believe it was made by Konami. Konami and Capcom were my two favorite game companies back in the day and they still continue to kick ass. I was totally sold on Mega Man and Castlevania. Those games always delivered the best music, graphics, and game play on NES and it still shines through to this day. I guess to ass on to the hobby thread I collect tons of video game music remixes/covers. Most of them consist of Mega Man and Castlevania. www.ocremix.org is a great site to find such musical pieces. Its either that or soulseek for me...

Hey Muppet Baby, (or anyone else)do you remember an episode of Strawberry Shortcake where a girl's tv show where the girls on the show REALLY wanted long hair and then they got their wish and their hair grew? I though it was Strawberry Shortcake, but I've never been able to find out for sure. I'm pretty sure it wasn't Lady Lovelylocks, because they all had long hair all the time (unless it was the first episode?). Anyway it's one of those things that will bug me until I figure it out, like that time in the car on vacation when I spent 5 hours trying to remember the name of the downstairs neighbor in Friends (Mr. Heckles).
Chestnuts roasted by Gabbylicious @ 06/30/2005 12:24 AM EST
Now why would anyone want long hair?
But to prevent a diatribe, I'll instead ask if any remembers those dolls with hair you could pull out and then ratchet back in by pumping their arm?
Chestnuts roasted by Hair Commentator @ 06/30/2005 01:41 AM EST
MIMP and M.U.S.C.L.E. Figures rocked! I can't believe I don't have them anymore. Since they were so cheap (at least the M.U.S.C.L.E. figures were...99 cents for a pack of 5), I pretty much always got a set of em' at Kay Bee toy store. Does anyone remember C.U.T.I.E. figures? They were like M.U.S.C.L.E. figures for girls...they were little rock star figurines. I was partial to all the figures, though...whether they were targeted towards boys or girls!

Ooooh, Monster in My Pocket Monster Mountain! I remember that!!!!!! That mall discount card was cool--and yes, I remember seeing commercials for new CDs saying that they were available at all major music stores...which also
includes "Coconuts."
Completely off subject--does anyone remember the old Teddy Ruxpin cartoon? I was wondering if there was an actual live-action guy in a giant Teddy Ruxpin suit that introduced the cartoon? I've heard mixed replies about this one, but I figured I could get it confirmed on here.

Oh yeah, my little sister had some CUTIEs. They usually ended up in the bath since they were all plastic and immune to water damage. You just had to make sure they didn't end up in uncomfortable places. Lucky for me, that was about the time I transitioned to showers.
Chestnuts roasted by Lori @ 06/30/2005 11:35 AM EST
Army Sister had one those dolls with growing hair. She never had a good record with fancy dolls and their action features. Cut the hair, crank the arm, and presto! The poor thing had a hole in its head. Same kind of thing with Baby That-A-Way. THUMP, THUMP, BONK! "Why did you let your doll tumble down the stairs?" "It wanted to go That-A-Way!" Baby Alive? She chewed on pencils, sticks, whatever could activate the motor. And the "food" powder you mix to feed her only, I repeat, only smelled like apricots. Good times.

I'm a Castlevania freak. The announcement of a Castlevania game can seriously influence a console decision for me.
And after the PHENOMINAL Resident Evil 4, Capcom has be in its grasp once again.
Oh man, I'm seriously not looking forward to this upcoming console generation... $450 + for each console?
I've kind of outgrown the need to have a new system/game as soon as it's out (unless it's from one of my favorite game series). I think I may end up being even MORE behind the rest of the gaming world if the prices take a while to drop.

SOmebody told me that the new Nintendo Revolution system will give you the option of downloading NES and SNES games for FREE!!! That could be a major selling point for someone like me....but I'm very aprehensive about buying new systems...the last console i bought was an SNES and that was after it went below 100 bucks. Well, actually scratch that....I bought a Dreamcast but way after it came out and it turned out to be a good investment. The Dreamcast is a highly underrated system. What also kicks ass is the fact you can run emulators on the DC.
Chestnuts roasted by phunqsauce @ 07/02/2005 11:55 AM EST
I don't think they are going to offer the downloads for free. I think I heard that they will be "selling" them for certain time periods, or permanently, depending on how much you pay. Something like that.
I don't need any new systems. Pointless, since the only games I want to play are going on 15-20 years old!
