Man. More and more, I feel like an alcoholic whose old drinking buddies are all on the wagon. I guess maybe I'll just have to go get a job now, too. Just like everyone else.
Oh, and stop drinking.

I'm in Tampa right now on business and I'm trying to get my shit in the Halloween mood by watching a marathon of horror movies and what do I see on the television set? A Christmas commercial!!! With snow and trees and the whole shebang. This sort of makes me happy cause my favorite time of year is at hand, but its Halloween and nothing ruins blood and gore like snow and Christmas cheer.....or does it??!??!! hmmmmmmmm sounds like a viewing of "Christmas Evil" is in order

Hey Matt you still do more writing and more effort than anyone that views this site could do. Thanks a million for all the good memories and great articles. Even though you probably hear that a lot. Thanks again for the Halloween stuff.

Yeah Matt, although you've toned down the article-making, a man has to work. So great job with the site, and ditto with Phil, thanks for the memories smile

Matt, I'm telling you, you should combine these articles into a book. A big Holiday book with the best of Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. With an included DVD that has the commercials on them (Though I imagine getting permission for everything would be a nightmare...)

That way, when you are bogged down and don't have time to write, we can browse through the book...

I'd pay 35 bucks for it...

To start off a conversation, I'm going to Six Flags Great Adventure on saturday with my college! It's the 2nd time i've ever been there (1st time was May 26 of this year) and I've also never been to a Fright Fest of any park, so I don't know what to expect.

The bus leaves my college at 12 (it's in Patchogue, LI) and I have no idea when I'm getting there, nor when I'm getting back home (I heard we're leaving the park at 10, and it closes at 11).

What are your opinions on if I try to do the following that day:

-get a Q-Bot (along with a few other friends, I know the limit is 6)
-ride at least Nitro, Medusa, Superman Ultimate Flight, and hopefully, Kingda Ka
-What the Fright Fest things are like

Thanks in advance.

(ps: I don't know how to do those Jason or Chucky smilies)

I saw a sasquatch today. On the side of the interstate.

Nobody believes me, but it's true. He was standing there and when I drove by he waved at me and then ran into the woods.

You have to believe.

Anyone got exciting weekend plans? I've got another paper due but if I finish in a timely manner I might hit Knott's Scary Farm for my first time. I've always been too scared to go before and even now feel a little leery.

I used to work at Great Adventure (calling it six flags is sacrilege)for Fright Fest. I worked Brutal Planet the 2 years it was there and one year on the Hayride which fuckin blew but for $10 an hour to put on makeup and scare people it was pretty badass.
I don't know how great your adventure will be (see what i did there?) if the weather maintains cause most of the rides will be shut down, if they even open the park at all.
Good Luck though.

As for haunted attractions, I now work for Halloween Adventure and they're pimping Blood Manor in NYC and Terror Behind the Walls at Eastern State Penitentiary in Philly and they both look pretty badass, especially ESP because it takes place in an haunted abandoned Prison. Sweetness

Chestnuts roasted by WonKa @ 10/14/2005 02:59 AM EST

Eastern State kicks ass, my good friend. I go there at least 4 times each Halloween season.

You so totally have to wear hard hats as the place is falling down and such.

Chestnuts roasted by AJ @ 10/14/2005 03:17 AM EST

My boyfriend and I should be going to Eastern State soon.

My boyfriend usually goes to Philadelphia State Hospital a.k.a. Byberry, since we live right across the street from it. He's been going there since he's 14, now he's 36.

I've only been in Byberry once, it was pretty cool.

Why Halloween is better than sex.

10. You're guaranteed to get a little something in the sack.
9. The uglier you are, the easier it is to get some.

8. It doesn't matter if the kids hear you moaning and groaning.

7. Less guilt the morning after.

6. It doesn't matter if they fantasize you're somebody else, because you are.

5. Forty years from now, you'll still enjoy candy.

4. If you don't get what you want, you can always go next door.

3. If you get tired, you can wait 10 minutes and go again.

2. You don't have to compliment the person who gives you some.

1. You can do the whole neighborhood!

Chestnuts roasted by Halloweenie @ 10/14/2005 12:50 PM EST

I've now paged through the past weeks worth of Halloween entries and comments sections. I hate real life. I heart x-e and all things slacker.

I've also dog-eared and worn down my two hard copy Halloween bibles in the past week and a half. Martha's Living (Halloween edition) and BH&G's Halloween (tricks & treats).

And in case anyone's interested, Halloween & Vine just completed their yearly craft show last weekend. Their website has links to most of their vendors -- www.halloweenandvine.com. Very cool stuff -- especially if you like really creepy vegetable monsters. ( And who doesn't? Quiet, you in the back! )

That's it. I got nuffink else. Keep up the good work, Matt!

I don't know how great your adventure will be (see what i did there?) if the weather maintains cause most of the rides will be shut down, if they even open the park at all.

I neglected to mention that my May 26 outing was a total NIGHTMARE. Out of the 7 hours I was at the park I only got in 4 coasters: The Chiller (Robin), Batman The Ride (not worth the wait), Nitro (worth the wait, and it only took me 35 minutes to get in line anbd get to the front row), and Superman Ultimate Flight (capacity was crap, but worth the wait).

But the weather forecast looks pretty damn good for tomorrow, and I don't really care about the Fright Fest crap, I'm only going for the rides.

And the fact that there have been 33 or so post in about 14 hours is blasphemy! Where is everyone???

Chestnuts roasted by Invader Norbert @ 10/14/2005 02:13 PM EST

Hey Invader Norbert--I live about 50 minutes south of Great Adventure (in Little Egg Harbor, Southern Ocean County--Jackson is in Northern Ocean), and I heard its only supposed to rain in the morning. You may be in for luck--they may just have to dry off the rides and run them once or twice before letting people on.

If you find Scooby-Doo, give him a hug. LOL--just kidding.

Violet--I too have Cocoa Cats. Got a helpful e-mail from an X-E poster directing me to Dollar Tree, and anybody looking for the custom Halloween Peeps flavors needs look no further than their Dollar Tree.

And now the quest is over, and I have nothing to live for.

Chestnuts roasted by mtrox @ 10/14/2005 03:15 PM EST

Well of course sasquai are expert sorcerers. How else would they hide their sasquatch cities? It's obvious that they can do magic. I think some of them might be druids.

Anyway. Matt, don't stress if you can't finish articles, we will all still think you're the greatest. I would totally buy the X-E book, but I still think we need a TV show like king said.

For the record, I use italics when I'm quoting somebody or something. I'm not gonna just go throwing around italics willy-nilly. The IGC (International Grammar Council) outlawed that after the Sanchez Incident in Montenegro in '93. Few survived to tell the tale. WHY DIDN'T YOU TAKE ME, GOD?! WHY DID JOHNNY HAVE TO DIE INSTEAD OF ME?! SANCHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ!

Chestnuts roasted by Gozer @ 10/14/2005 03:59 PM EST

kb: You have a coffee shop? That's downright heroic.
And damn the luck, my local Dollar Tree is way across town. And I was just over there this morning. You know, BEFORE I knew that the trail of the elusive Cocoa Cat Peep led there. On a side note, "trail of elusive cocoa cat peep" sounds like something that's really hard to get out of carpets.
Why was I clear across town this morning, I hear you ask? Because that's where Hastings is. And that's where I bought the combo DVD pack of the first three Myst games. Yeah, that's right. I'm just that geeky.
It's really amazing how archaic the graphics are. It makes me sad that my friend and I paid fifteen bucks apiece for a shared copy of the original game. But the DVD special edition? Totally worth it. For me, the nostalgia trip started when the installation program informed me that the entire game was going to take up 2 MB of hard drive space.
Good times.

This probably would have been more appropriate in the thread starting the countdown off, but I didn't discover this site until around a week or two ago. And I gotta say, it's great stuff. Halloween has been my favorite holiday for many a year and the last few have felt increasingly lacking in the Halloween spirit. To see something like this is very refreshing and greatly appreciated.

That said I realized something today that saddens me. Halloween this year will be on a Monday. A monday! Things like this should be illegal, or Halloween should be given the same recogition as the other holidays and we should get some days off. I'm sure it's fallen on Mondays before, but I can't really recall. Around this neighborhood that likely means all the trick or treating will probably start at around 6pm and be done by 8 or 9. I also have college classes to go to that'll keep me busy until 7:30. With most people either having to go to work or school the following day, even finding a good Halloween party could be difficult. This is all very disheartening, especially since reading the countdown has gotten me even more psyched up for Halloween than usual. I'm damn determined to find some worthy way to celebrate though, the spirit will not die.

Chestnuts roasted by GrrrArrgh @ 10/15/2005 01:43 AM EST

Yeah, I hate weeknight Halloween. It always kills the number of trick or treaters we get.

Of course, Fridays are no better here because of high school football dragging everyone away from Halloween activities, so really, the only night worth having Halloween on is Saturday, and that just doesn't happen often enough.

I just got back from seeing Paul McCartney and it rocked! Yeahhhh! It started off with Magical Mystery Tour and ended with I can't remember what it ended with. Hey Jude was awsome. He did what he did in 02 with the upper rows, fellas and ladies. He also wants people to start using the word preadventure. It mean possibly, perhaps. You get the picture. Any way it rocked! Tauntaun troubles :o

The only way I could loathe you even more is if he played Octopus' Garden, but I doubt that happened...

The last concert I went to was a Turbonegro show Tuesday. I got vomited on by some drunken Scandanavian girl in a viking hat.

I fucked up. The word was peradventure not preadventure. Here's the definition from Merriam- Webster
Main Entry: 1per·ad·ven·ture
Pronunciation: 'p&r-&d-"ven-ch&r, 'per-; "p&r-&d-', "per-
Function: adverb
Etymology: Middle English per aventure, from Old French, by chance
archaic : PERHAPS, POSSIBLY

Sorry to hear about your ticket Kyle. you want to hear worse?

My 3 month old car nearly got it's bumper torn off. At geuss where? After nearly 1000 days of rain here, I decided to go to the car wash. Yup, an attendendant there reversed the front driver side of a full sized limo into my back quarter panel and tore away part of my bumper.

So her I am drunk, on X-E realizing it's only a car and with all this shit going on on the planet, it could be worse.

The reason bigfoot pictures are blurry is because bigfoot is a transdimensional being. When we "see" him, we're only seeing a "realm shadow" that has filtered through to our reality.

I know this because I was raised in a bigfoot village.

'sup dawgs? I'm back from vacation! sad

squee!! Yes, that Lifetime movie I mentioned did involve fire. It also opened with Manson's version of 'Sweet Dreams' although the Eurythmics version popped up later in the movie. And the fat, red-haired nurse, she was also in one of my most-favorite movies of all time: Freeway, with Keifer and Reese's. In Freeway, the red-haired lady plays Reese's parole/probation officer who comes to take her back to foster care, but ends up getting her feet cuffed to the bed. So...

KMFDM rocked my balls so hard! They played a lot of stuff off the new album, Hau Rock, but the best was a killer 'Megalomaniac', and I was impressed when the band brought out a birthday cake for their guitarist!! It was all very emotional...sniff.
I just wish I could have seen them on the Symbols tour, back in the day!

Best things I bought at American Science? A Pac-Man neon wall clock for $15, some of those trippy ass glasses, and Bozo the Clown tatoos!!

Best things from Uncle Fun's? A sealed ET puzzle from 1982, a Rolling Stones puzzle from 1983, some luggage tags that look like strips of bacon, and some Three Stooges magnets.

I saw Cabbage Patch Doll cake decorations, you know those sugary type ones, from God knows when, I saw a "Hollywood" Hogan NWO smock costume, with a REALLY bad mask, I saw (and I'm already kicking my own ass for not buying one of these) not one, but TWO, Kool-Aid Man bobbleheads!! And they were giant, not like the normal size bobbleheads!! Fuck, why didn't I buy more useless cool shit!?!?!

Okay, and I forgot to look for Toyfare too, dammit!

for variety here is a random post bastardized from the undergroundhiphop.com message boards, this was originally posted by dareallambchop:

Topic: Young Jezzy Pt.2 "the Reason"

posted Saturday, October 15, 2005: Because Jeezy shit is so real.

Jezzy is down with BMF. They basically runshit across the country. This ain't no fake gangsta shit either, they go in Puffy and Jay-Z parties and buy up the bar. They got cats in NY, GA, Miami, Chicago, LA, everywhere basically runnin the cities.

They did a show here last month and threw out garbage bags of money like rain from the stage that entire show. From start to finish, for over an hour. Just pulling out big ass stacks in rubberbands and throwing it in the crowd.

So Jezzy was paid before he hit. I've seen em pull up to Circle House (Miami) just to come hang out. They pull up 50 deep pushin Phantoms and Maybachs on dubs and shit. Ferraris and shit.

BMF is the truth, and all the dope boys know it. And the shit he talks about is SO REAL. But it's not broken down for everyone to understand. It's in Dope boy lingo, so half the shit he's sayin, most people don't get.

3rdstrike - That's why you think he's just repeatin himself with non meaning, but if you really listen, he does do it with double meanings alot of the time. I agree sometimes no, but most of the time he does.

I was the same way when I heard about him. I was like Who? Then I had to take a road trip with my artist and they kept playing him, and I started listening to the lyrics, and I was like damn, this ain't no fake gangsta shit.

It's Gangsta music, and dude was gonna blow with Jay or not, because he had BMF money behind him before Def Jam.

And as far as mainstream (white) America. They buy whatever the n*ggas like, or think is hot. When 50 dropped he had the streets, white people ate it up.

50 dissed Jah, Jah and Ashanti can't give they records away now.

Jezzy dropped, and the dope boyz went crazy, now he's the new hot shit. That's just the way it is.

Jezzy even says that he's not the greatest rapper, but his adlibs are the shit.

"Yeeeaaaaahhhh"...

Peradventure I will get the clone attack of coruscant battle pack today at target. It comes with four clones with the markings of the 41st elite, the unit that went with Yoda to Kashyyk before they put on the scout armor. It also comes with a blue repaint of Commander Bacara. The title has absolutely nothing to do with the figures other than the clone part. It was the 501st division that attacked the Jedi temple not the 41st elite. The 41st elite were a Legion out of the 9th Assault corps, under the command of Commander Gree.

That was from Mitch Hedberg (RIP)

Also, If you didn't read before, I went to 6 Flags Great Adventure yesterday with my college. I can only describe it as this: Nightmare.

I was only there for about 6 hours (3-9:30pm), and I only got to ride 4 coasters: Nitro, Superman: Ultimate flight, Blackbeard's Lost Treasure Train, and Runaway Train. I wanted to ride Medusa, but it shut down sometime during the day, and I saw that it was open when I was leaving. Fortunately, i got a Qbot, which is something you pay $30 for to reserve a ride time, and I used this for Nitro & Superman, and I did it for Kingda Ka too, but I wasn't able to make it before I left for home. Worth every penny, though.

The Dr. Suess collection is great! FYI, it includes the following:
The Cat in the Hat
The Lorax
Pontofell Pock and His Magic Piano
Green Eggs and Ham
Sneetches
Zax
Grinch Night (I think Matt reviewed this on the site)
The Grinch Grinches the Cat in the Hat
The Hoober-Bloob Highway

It's a great collection, and only $20 at my local Walmart. IHAQ, I kinda know what you mean about some cartoons being kind of creepy. This might be a little different, but I have a lot of distinct memories of certain parts of cartoons that made me sad or scared. Like in An American Tail, the cats really scared me, and The Land before Time makes me feel scared too. And there is a scene in (I think) the Disney cartoon version of A Christmas Carol, where Ebenezer Scrooge sees his own grave and then falls in and that always freaked me out. And a scene with dancing pink elephants in (maybe) Dumbo (I think?) that haunted my nightmares. I'm not sure why I thought they were so scary. Basically any of those crazy animation sequences with things dancing around and turning into other things freaked me out.

Is anyone else familiar with the Dr. Suess cartoons? Maybe Matt could review them sometime.

None are as cool as the head in the jar, (that thing is too real) but, they still beat the shit out of the stuff you pick up at your local markets. Besides the cartoons mentioned above, Warner Bros also made a Looney Tunes cartoon of Horton Hatches The Egg. Freaky, funny stuff., though my favorite of the ones I've seen (and I've seen most of them) was The Lorax for some reason.

On that Super hero thing, my ex-coworker at the video store said one time he would be the Incredible Jello (he really isn't chubby or anything--he has "Baby fat."wink

My mom and I were in Kohl's today, and we started talking about the Golden Girls--she said that she thought the house was Dorothy's. I said it was Blanche's. There was someone walking behind us the entire time.

Brilliant, Bene--the world needs an X-E movie!!!!!

Weird dream--I've been having this recurring dream that I'm pregnant (2 years and running). I'm not even remotely pregnant. In last night's unbelievable installment, I dropped the calf. Woo-hoo.

The Grinch Grinches the Cat in the Hat is classic!!! I absolutely love it!! I don't know too many people who remember it though. Maybe I'll pick up that DVD. Did you know that the V/O on the Smucker's commercials is Mason Adams, the voice of the Cat in the Hat? I love it! My mom said that and I've been hanging on to it!!

Ted Kennedy burped on camera during the State of the Union Address a few years ago! I SAW IT!!!

Warwick Davis taking a shit!! Phunqsauce, you ARE A GENIUS!!!!

Man oh man how could I have forgotten the Kool-Aid man. I feel absolute humiliation.

And although I can understand the objection to Sara Gilbert playing Matt's girlfriend, it's made up for by the scene of him cheating on her with both Teela and She-Ra (played by Carmen Elektra and Jessica Alba).

Bene, that is brilliant!!! My boyfriend would get a kick out of the She-Ra/Teela ref (we're He-Man/She-Ra fans).

As long as there's She-Ra, look for that little rainbow-eared guy hiding in the scenery during the climactic "Matt Saves The World With Just a Box of 3-POs and a Bootleg 'Spader'-Man Figure" scene.

Spidey the Bum was a classic article. If Robin Williams is unavailable, how bout Christopher Walken? He can do his dance from "Weapon of Choice." God, I LOVE Christopher Walken!! He's so funny, and always refreshing!!!

Yessss yess! Chris Walken is my master....!

Walken is the greatest. I was watching an SNL rerun from early 1990 yesterday w/him as the host. He sang and danced during his monologue. It was wonderful.

Great Tom Cruise ref from "Weekend Update"--"Born on the 4th of July...(picture of Tom Cruise and ex-wife Mimi Rodgers)...divorced on the 17th of January." Thank you Dennis Miller! Perhaps a premonition of what's to come in the continuing saga that is TomKat???? I'm sure if Miller was the Update anchor, it would be all over his news--I'm sure he's creeped out.
