Man, your freezer is a goldmine of fun, a treasure of pleasure!
I wish mine was as cool.

I've eaten those potato smiles! They were pretty good when they came out. Even half-frozen. Can't really go wrong with potatoes though.

I gotta wonder what people say when they see the contents of your freezer when searching for ice or whatever.
My sons daycare serves those potato smilies almost daily, along side a heaping pile of ketchup.
OH YEAH, yay SEAHAWKS!

My roommate got those McCain Smiles fries a couple months ago, and hated them. In fact, he was so adamant about how terrible they were that I didn't even try one.
By the way, the pink Fla-Vor-Ices are awesome. You've got to admit that they're at least better than the green variety.

1) I brought my Stinkor to kindergarten one day. Some evil kid dumped him in the sandbox and ruined him.
2) I recently had football (and football related) shaped chicken nuggets stuffed with cheese. I don't care how much of an affront to nature they are. They was DEE-licious.
3) Does anyone else find it odd that Matt seems to be updating more often now than he did during December?
4) I didn't see 'hitherto' (Property of Rhino. All rights reserved.) used in the article anywhere. Maybe I missed it.
5) I'm done now.

FINALLY! An article! And It was good. And my parents say I'm bad when I save everything...
One thing that stood out for me in that article? The mention of Micro-Magic Fries. You have absolutely no idea how long I ate those almost every night of the week. Yes, the boxes were kickass and since I stopped finding them in stores around here in LI some 8+ years ago, I haven't had microwaveable fries since. And I sure do miss Pop Qwiz too. Only kind of popcorn I ever ate and I'm still pissed that it's gone.
Continuing the SNL topic from the SNT...thread, here's a topic sure to rake in comments:
Who is/are your favorite Weekend Update Anchor(s)? My Top 3 consists of these 3:
-Kevin Nealon. He delivered Weekend Update like an actual newsman. Every so often he would do something that seemed to be from a real news show, like saying "And now a look at the National Picture" and a map on the US would show up on the screen. All the jokes and fake guests seemed to be treated with all seriousness, while also fending off the advances of Ike Turner. He's also the only anchor to appear on WU before and after his reign while as a castmember. (He's appeared on both Dennis Miller's and Norm MacDonald's WU sketches)
-Norm MacDonald. His dry voice & wit seemed perfect for this. At the beginning of most of his sketches, unlike Kevin, he admitted that it was Fake News.
-Colin Quinn. Another smarmy delivery of the news in his own fashion. He had big shoes to fill from Norm's departure, and in his first sketch he compares himself to the New Bartender at your favorite bar. While he too appeared on WU before and since his reign, he was long gone from the show when he appeared on Tina & Jimmy's era.

The old Video Store you mentioned, the Easy Video Outlet on Route 9 in Woodbridge is no more. It closed within the past two weeks and the building is currently being renovated.
And the abandoned Razz-Ma-Tazz building was demolished last summer.

Choco-tacos are golden gods of ice cream, and they're not dead either. I see them all the time around here (South Carolina). There are some in a gas station a minute from my house, and some sold in a Block buster, too.
But if it's hard to find near where you live, keep it just as a reminder.
As for obviously extinct things you need to keep..
Go with the dinosaur nuggets. Simply because the T-rex on that package is too cute to kill. Seriously, just look at him, and his little arms.
Chestnuts roasted by Aristobulus @ 01/22/2006 10:47 PM EST
By the way, here's the nerdiest thing I did this weekend:
1) While watching the episode of He-Man with Molkrom the huge horse-like monster (the second episode of Disk 3 of the first box-set) I was reminded of Montaro from Mortal Kombat fame.
2) I played Mortal Kombat II on "Midway Arcade Tresures 2" disk for half an hour before realising once more how terrible I am at that game.
3) Something then made me think it would be a good idea to play Rampage World Tour for like an hour-and-a-half. I can see maybe playing that game for like 45 minutes with two friends, but alone?

Yay! Great to see some past article junk still lying around. I would definitly be putting those blue fries in a ziploc bag though. They're way too cool for trash.
Also, today I went into some crappy/stinky old grocery store and found a container of Purplesaurus Rex! It's in a metal can with the scoop and stuff, and it's not even faded or anything! It's awesome... It shall never be opened....

And I thought I had a ton of stuff after I cleared out. Your freezer scares me. I'm moving in exactly a week myself, so I completely know where you're coming from on the clean-out. I've been going through the myriad mountain of junk I have for over a year now...and I still shudder to think of the amount of boxes and crates I'm going to have to get up to the new apartment somehow.
It's nice to go on an X-E nostalgia trip, though. The McCain Smiles and the Dinosaur nuggets still exist; I've seen both at the grocery store where I work. In fact, that's one of the advantages of working in a grocery store. I've seen just about everything in this article at one time or another. Eggo must have about 16,000 different flavors now, from Homestyle to Nutri-Grain, not to mention half the fruits in existance. I think there's still a SpongeBob Eggo floating around, though I'm not sure about the flavor.

Iowa is swimming with Choco-Tacos. Heck, our Toys R Us sells them. Although I never tried one. I will now.
I've always wanted to try a WWF/E Ice Cream Bar but have NEVER been able to find them.
Those Spidey/Wolverine bars a scarey. I thought it was the Hulk bar until you mentioned Wolvie.
Speaking of Blue Fries, you might as well do an article on that multi-colored kethups Heinz tried to sale. Only saw the green version. I guess kids like normal looking food. I also remember those flavored ranch dressings (Pizza, nacho, super creamy, etc) that Hidden Valley tried to sale kids. Since when do kids eat salads?
The one food item that has disappeared that I DESPERATELY want back. It's Pasta Anytime. They just vanished after a couple years. Just mix pasta with the sauce, nuke it for 3 minutes, and it was just as good fresh cooked pasta.
Norbert: I HATED Norm and Colin's stint in the anchor's chair. Those were just horrible seasons in general and they didn't help.
My Fav's:
Kevin Nealon- This was the period where various cast members would do their micro-characters. I LOVED Adam Sandler's Operaman and Cajun Man. Also loved David Spade's Hollywood Minute and Nealon's Mr. Subliminal.
Dennis Miller- He was perfect with it. He's number one in my book.
3.) Anyone except Norm and Colin. I like Fey with Poehler and Fallon (although Horatio Sanz did a great job subbing for Fey). The anchors in the 80's are underrated. And of course, the orignal anchors are classic (Aakroyd, Curtain, Murray).
Chestnuts roasted by JLAJRC @ 01/23/2006 12:13 AM EST
Gozer- I too spent the weekend watching that He-Man DVD set...I really loved episode 3 on disk one, where Evil-Lyn uses that changing staff to break into the castle and turn the king, Teela and Orco into animals, and then Skeletor makes FAKER- the FAKE He-Man! Wow, that was the highlight of my morning.
Just saw "syriana"- liked it, but need to see it again, because it was confusing.
Awesome Freezer Treasures, Matt- we don't get half of that cool shit up here in the sticks- quite jealous of your junk (as usual!)

RIP Pop Qwiz. I spent many a TGIF with you.
Norm MacDonald is my favorite news anchor from SNL, by the by. I like his delivery. Nobody could ever get me to like Dennis Miller...not sure why. Nealon was good, and I enjoy what I've seen of Chase and Aykroyd/Curtain. Since the Fey/Fallon regime, Weekend Update has gotten too giggly. I like all of the anchors, but not AS anchors I guess.

One of the most beautifully profound things I've ever read on this site...
In its most genuine form, people who seek the trinkets of their youth see more in them than parts and plastic. Many of us do not find it easy to piece together that whats and whys of who we are.
It's so true! I've tried explaining this concept to my husband more than once and I get this look like, "I really want to understand where you're coming from, but this is just beyond me." Thankfully, my obsessions haven't extended to the freezer. I draw the line at anything perishable.

My favorite Weekend Update anchor would be Kevin and Norm. Closely followed by Dennis. Everyone knows Colin was a nightmare. I also liked Jimmy but although I like Tina and Amy I don't consider them near the best.
Question, Am I the only one who does NOT enjoy the first few years the best? Yes, they were funny. I just think other years, especially late 80's-early 90's were far superior. Dunno, maybe it's just me.

Lori: I thought that line was one of the best things I've read on this site.
Favorite SNL Anchors:
Neiland, Miller, and meh, that's it. Not too fond of the Fallon/Fey team up. OR Collin.
Neiland's time was probably the funniest. Espeicially when he had the guests. Spade was hysterical, and Sandlers characters were great. I especially liked Sandlers Thanksgiving over the TV.
"COME ON OLD MAN! YOU WANT A PIECE OF ME....?!?!?"
One of the funniest things Neiland ever said, at least to me was:
"A new survey was taken today. 4 out of 5 people questioned think the 5th ones an idiot..."
Or something like. He was so serious when he said it, I think I had tears in my eyes.

Nice article, Matt! I too enjoy your food articles. I dunno, something about ancient, weird food just makes me smile. And I love you all the more for caring about it just as much as we all do. *hugs*
And I'm about 95% sure I have a package of those Smiley fries in my freezer right now. The boyfriend and I have been on a "buy-everything-that's-on-sale" kick the past couple of weeks at the grocery store, so our small freezer and many cupboards are well-stocked now. I love living on my own.
Best of luck moving into the new apt...I just tackled the bedroom yesterday, and we moved early this month. It wasn't pretty, but the boyfriend's family is coming to visit on Saturday for the first time, and I'd like them to think I actually know how to keep house. It's fun to delude.

In your case, Matt, looking hard would be too easy--you easily have this treasure trove of goodies before you, a plethora of frozen interests.
Ohhh, kb and Galvatron, Dennis Miller is MY fave Weekend Update anchor!!! Tina Fey comes in at a VERY close 2nd. My all-time favorite cast member honors goes to Dana Carvey. A Best Of DVD is probably never likely for Dennis Miller though--it would be all Weekend Update--not like that's a horrible thing!!! Favorite cast honors goes to the 1986-1990 regulars, they were the best together, and you can tell they had excellent chemistry.

All those pieces in the Robots dessert look like robotic penises (penii?) anyways. Actually, so does the macaroni. Seems to me that Kid Cuisine's real goal here was to see if they could get away with making kids eat dick. Also, Choco Tacos are still out there, my campus cafeteria has them in abundance. Though that might not prove they are still being made FRESH, my school could very well have bought expired tacos in bulk and rubbed off the expiration dates.

mother of shitballs, BLUE FRENCH FRIES?!?!? I honestly have never seen anything like that before in my life. I feel so sheltered. Matt, your freezer is so tidy, all those boxes stacked in there. Mine's one of those with ice forming along the sides and scary tupperware full of who-knows-what precariously crammed in. The last time I cleaned out a freezer was during the past summer, I found a package of ground beef from three years ago (no lies, i swear), which is double weird because I'm vegetarian.

Dana Carvey had to be one of my favorite cast members of all time. Next to Eddie Murphy and him doing Black Gumbi and Buckwheat.

Some of those Kid Cuisines are freaky. I'm not a fan of runny macaroni and cheese. I like cheese, but preferably not in soup form.
Favourite SNL WU anchors:
I like the anchors that actually appear as though they could be actual anchors. It just makes it a better contrast (and funnier, of course) if they end up doing something ridiculous.
Jane Curtin: She was believable as a anchor, and her interaction with her co-anchors or another character was great. As a sidenote, some people put the original SNL on this mighty pedestal that no other era can possibly reach, but I think it's too simple to say that all eras after the original suck.
Norm Macdonald: He doesn't fit with my description of a good WU anchor, but his delivery was funny and more than made up for it. I wish, just once, he did Weekend Update as Burt Reynolds.
Tina Fey : "That's the last time I suck beer out of dirt with you." I like that Weekend Update is sillier now. I think it works and now and again, there's something spontaneous that ends up being hilarious.
Chestnuts roasted by Dr. Acula @ 01/23/2006 06:10 PM EST
I was watching a "Weekend Update" the other night from May 1987, and Miller's mullet was at its peak of length. It was significantly shorter the following season--you think NBC told him to cut his hair???
You can pretty much gauge the season or year by how long Miller's hair is if you missed the opening credits. Pretty weird, but true. It was its longest in the spring of 1987 and 1988-1989. It was its shortest in late 1990, but I guess he couldn't keep it that way, b/c it was slightly longer again by early 1991, when he left.
I like Tina Fey b/c there aren't nearly enough smart, funny, female comedians. Plus, she was the 1st female head writer for SNL, and 1st female "Weekend Update" anchor (of note) since 1980. Ok, ok, I think there were two in the early 80s, but did anyone honestly care about what happened on SNL in the early '80s.
Galvatron--Dana Carvey rocks!! I was watching Critic's Choice the other night on HBO Comedy for the 1st time unedited (I've seen it plenty on Comedy Central). That show is friggin' hillarious!
Chestnuts roasted by Allison @ 01/23/2006 06:23 PM EST
I almost forgot (almost)--Dana Carvey as Dennis Miller is classic. He does Miller better than Miller could do himself. I heard he used to CRINGE at the impression Carvey did. Jeez, Dennis, its fairly accurate.
That high-pitched girlie laugh is hysterical. Miller doesn't have one of those horribly fake laughs that far too many actors have--this guy's laugh is extremely natural-sounding, though quite silly. Always sounds like he's enjoying himself. I like how he reacts on stage and on "Update" when people go "ooooooooh!"--he says it back and laughs that crazy laugh--Haha!

Remember on SNL last year when they did the "American Idol" parody, and Amy Poehler/Paula Abdul was crying when Constantine was eliminated, and said that everyone she loves leaves her...and named MC Scat Cat as one of them?! Talk about digging through the bottom of the nostalgic reference bin for that one! MC Scat Cat?! Just screams '80s!!!
Its gems like that they baffle me every time SNL isn't more consistent. '80s SNL always seemed consistent--perhaps everything just melded right.

You've said you're a dinosaur fan, Matt, so you might know that birds are DESCENDED from the dinosaurs. What would they have thought if they could know that some wimpy mammals millions of years later would be butchering their descendants and shaping their flesh into crude images of themselves? Good thing there aren't any dinosaur ghosts, eh? (Or are there?)
That would be a good kiddie movie or cartoon show; ghosts+dinosaurs=you can't freakin' miss.

Funny you should mention Dino-ghosts Andrew...
When I was a kid I could've sworn I saw a big transparent T-Rex in my backyard. It roared at me and then disappreared.
Also, I'm currently writing a movie (though not a kid's movie) about a dinosaur on a quest during the time period after the meteor hit. And, one sequence is about him encountering the ghosts of dinosaurs that died horribly when the meteor hit.
Anyway, about SNL I hate Dennis Miller (he's REALLY obnoxious), and would have to go with Kevin Nealon as my favourite. And, I only watch early 90s or classic 70s episodes.
Also, I see plenty of Choco Tacos at my local Taco-Bell.
Oh, and squee, as one "romantic-softy" to another, I highly recommend Code: Lyoko.

I would be so psyched about Darkwing Duck coming to DVD if I hadn't caught a few eps on Toon Disney that completely belied my tweenie memories. Maybe I caught a bad couple of reruns because I ADORED the show as a kid.
I wish they'd made a Roger Rabbit toon...we had to make due with Bonkers, which was a sad substitute, if better than nothing.

Thanks for the reco, Tetsu! My phone doesn't have the character so usually I can't sport animoticons here in the blog but thanks to the wonders of cut and paste: ^_~
I'm really interested in hearing more about this movie if you wish to share. Film school? Script writing software? Stop motion, 2D or CGI dinos?
How many other bloggers/aspiring filmmakers do we have here in the blog?
Chestnuts roasted by squee4242 @ 01/23/2006 11:35 PM EST
Well, I'm not in film school (or any kind of school for that matter), and I plan to do this movie in hand drawn animation possibly with CGI opening and flashbacks.
The script is right now being planned out in my head and will eventually be either typed in word or simply handwritten in my notebook.
Anyway, the story centers around a young Deinonychus named Sabrewing. Sabrewing is your typical loner with a chip on his shoulder. This is because he lived alone his entire life except for his best-friend and (love-interest) a female Deinonychus named Michiko.
Sabrewing and Michiko are among the few survivors of the big meteorite that hit and, like the other survivors, spend all their time trying to survive in the hostle barren world that came to be when it hit.
Eventually, Sabrewing gets a message from the Goddess of time telling him that he is to save the saurian races by seeking the one called "the Rider"(an alien being that litterally rode the meteor to Earth so he can bestow "the Mark" on one of it's lifeforms). After some nagging from Michiko, Sabrewing goes on his mission to the place the meteor hit where the Rider is suppossedly waiting for him.
Along the way, they meet up with Daigame the Ankylosaurus, and Sai the Triceretops, who join them on the quest. And, our heroes encounter other survivors (both good and bad), more gods, and yes the ghosts I mentioned earlier (which inhabit a forest of dead trees).
So, What'cha think?

I thought Andrew was going to have a heart attack over there. Screaming holy shit and all. Hi Andrew, you relaxed now? :-)
Darth Poop meets Darth Pong--I smell a duel. These two shall meet on the Brimstar stage of "Super Smash Bros. Melee" (for those of you who've never played, Brimstar is the Metroid stage, but you already knew that), and I guarantee there will be plenty of "In the Fray" and " Half-Minute Man" scoring to be seen. Ok, I play that game too much. Next...
Muppet Baby--fast fact for ya--Jane Curtin declined to participate in last year's "Live From New York: The First 5 Years of Saturday Night Live" b/c she doesn't like to discuss her years on SNL. Well, jeez, Jane, the show made you pretty much what you are, and biting off the hand that feeds you, well, that's just plain wrong.
But, hey, to each his own. Dennis Miller and Jan Hooks were not in "Saturday Night Live in the 80s: Lost and Found." Sad, really. They were fairly important parts of SNL's revival in 1986-1990, yet neither one was featured. It's not like either one is horribly busy to begin with, but hey, things happen, I guess.
The last one I expected to participate was Nora Dunn--she only BOYCOTTED the show and got her ass booted out. She was pretty funny at times--can e when the right part comes along. then, I saw her in that Amber Frey movie where she played Gloria Allred. Seems like her kind of part, huh?
Hey Tetsu, I like Kevin Nealon too. He's ranking at #3 on my list--he seems so nice, that if he was insulting someone, they probably would be laughing to hard to notice. I remember Jon Lovitz and Dennis Miller discussing in an interview on Miller's HBO show about how Nealon had this joke where he would walk around with a small pillow, and say "Oh, did you drop something, here let me help you!" and drop the pillow and and pretend to look up skirts. Or something like that. It was funnier when they talked about it.

Seriously, it's creepy. This isn't just some ordinary typo thing, there's a stronger force behind it. I notice it everywhere. Something in our brains makes us want to type an extra 'by' instead of 'way' and I just want to tell whatever it is to go to hell.

To have a proper "X-E Poster Child Melee (Sith-y Boy Slap Party Edition)", not only do you need proper settings, but also some appropriate items to stash in the Pokeballs. Hulk Hands, all those twist-ties that secured Unicron in his box, the mysterious brown goo from that ice cream machine in that sucky game room, and a flock of Mare Winninghams (Mares Winningham? Mare Winnings-ham? What is the right term for a bunch of 'em?). And as a final suggestion, great background music. Click my name for a contender.

My grandfather lives on a farm in Idaho and for some reason has 5 large freezers. Most everything in them is atleast two years old. Packaged meat, freezer burned vegetables, tv dinners to name a few. While staying with him one summer we decided to see what the oldest thing he had in his freezers was. After searching the five we came up with a 1987 roll of pillsbury bisuits that had been in the freezer so long the aluminun on either ends was badly corroded. We laughed and put it back satisfied we had found the oldest thing in the freezer. A week later when my sister was looking in the shed when she found another freezer! This one was a long freezer you always see serial killers put bodies in. When we opened it up we saw the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. The entire Freezer was filled with old tv dinners. Most of them were adult tv dinners but a good 10 of them were kid cuisines from the late eighties. The deeper we dug the older they got until we hit the mother load three tv dinners from 1971 by a company that probably hasn't existed in twenty years. We put them all back and agreed that they must stay in the freezer for all time.

To answer the question posed in the article: no, you don't capitalize the word "french" in french fries. The name was originally "frenched fries", and referred to the cut of the potato, which has been frenched. It's not a direct reference to the country of France, which makes the Congressional "freedom fries" debacle even more laughably stupid tan it already was, which was a lot.
Chestnuts roasted by Annie @ 01/24/2006 02:04 PM EST

I was pretty sure it was short for "french-fried potatoes" since french-frying is another word for deep-frying. Not sure which explanation is right here, but one of these is probably true.

I actually didn't think Matt was leaving us when I saw the title of this article; actually when I saw those Smiles fries I thought he was saying "farewell" to his last leftover Christmas junk. I thought those Smiles were gingerbread men, since I've never seen anything like those before!
Speaking of old food, we once found a package of lasagna shells from 1986 in our pantry back in about 1997. So it wouldn't have been as wild a find as if we'd found them yesterday, but still an interesting story. But it gets better-in 1988 we moved to California, so we would've brought along those two-year-old shells like they were just another piece of furniture! That doesn't quite beat keeping around TV dinners from when The Brady Bunch was still running, but IMHO it comes pretty close. At least Matt's bothering to check his freezer first.
Chestnuts roasted by Andrew @ 01/24/2006 10:15 PM EST
On a similar note which I should've added above, around the same time, we found an original copy of the We Are the World charity album (on vinyl), still in its wrapping! My mom says we must have bought it for one of my cousins' birthday, since he really liked Michael Jackson at the time, but she must have forgotten to give it to him. So it too was trucked cross-country along with the other, more-played record albums, and didn't see the light of day for 12 years. Jeez, how much do you think that would've gone for on eBay today-still in the original wrapping?
Now that I think about it, I think the only reason we found that stuff might have been because we were getting ready to move into our current house, so we were cleaning out the old one; deciding what stuff to keep and what to throw away. Perhaps all that good stuff might still be hidden away in our pantry and album cabinet if we hadn't moved. Scary thought, huh?

PILLOW PEOPLE!! That's so wild, I had honestly forgotten about mine. I had to donate it this year during the move. I had the one with the boxing gloves and the black eye ... my sister got the girlie one with yellow yarn braids. Hers looked kinda like the one that DJ had on Full House and I am eternally jealous that I had to be the tomboy of the family.
p.s. squee, LOST FAN!! What's the rumours???

(NZ) ---- Matrix Powerade is green. I bought tons of it when it was out and was curious myself. Definitly green.
And Pillow People. HA. I recently accuired one that has dog features from the salvation army. What a coincidence. And DJ's from Full House had a window face... I hate myself for knowing that.

I don't remember Pillow People, but what you describe sounds quite a bit like those WWF and WCW Wrestling Buddies. Pillows shaped like Hogan, Nash, Goldberg, Savage, DDP, Jake Roberts, and Ultimate Warrior. Some of them even talked.
I also got a pillow shaped like Wolverine's head a few years ago. Haven't seen it for awhile but it was comfy.

I have (not to mention the still-in-production,-thank-Mare Pepsi Vanilla), and now Black Cherry Vanilla Coke is out. I have yet to try it, but I don't like the look of it, but I'm gonna try it anyway. (Hey, I got both Jones Soda Holiday Packs...which I have yet to even remove the wrappers from. Who wants a Super Bowl Tasting Party??)

Muppet Baby--"All In" was Dennis Miller's latest HBO comedy special. He's done quitea few for their network (they cancelled his show in 2002, and obviously they didn't want to lose his profitability). The reason for the title was b/c he performed it in Las Vegas.
Me? I like going to casinos too, b/c they're so centrally located to where I live (I live about 30 minutes north of Atlantic City, New Jersey). However, I'm not always that lucky when I gamble.

Allison-
It was his HBO show, Dennis Miller Live. It's the one with Jay Leno where they are talking about TV shows. The joke was during the monologue. Sadly, I don't remember what the joke was. If I watched the show again, I could probably tell you.
Chestnuts roasted by Darth Muppet @ 01/25/2006 04:54 PM EST
I saw the Garbage Pail Kids for the first time on one of the Showtime channels awhile ago. I found it fun but in a cheesy way. They also had Mac & Me but I didn't catch it.
I watched the Dennis Miller special and it was pretty good. Certainly better than the load of angry, depressing crap George Carlin gave us in his last special (and he's my favorite comedian). Robert Klein's special was pretty good too if you can catch it.
Chestnuts roasted by JLAJRC @ 01/25/2006 05:22 PM EST
I wish I had more of Miller's HBO show on tape. I moronically threw out my tape w/the "Millenium Special" on it. That was a really funny and creative special. I wish HBO would put his show out on DVD. I'd get it in a sec. Just the fact that you saw DML in person is just completely cool.
If I lived in California, and was a little further along in my college career at the time (in the summer of 2002, I was between my freshman and sophomore years of college) I would have tried to obtain an internship at his show--that would have been the GREATEST experience. Not to say my internship at CBS-3 in Philly wasn't the greatest experience, but still...nothing beats interning on a TV show you like.
I aspired to intern at SNL, but found out they treat interns like slaves. Of course, if Dana Carvey told me to get him coffee, I would have in a second!!
Chestnuts roasted by Allison @ 01/25/2006 05:24 PM EST
I saw George Carlin in person at Caesars in December, and he stayed on stage for 45 minutes b/c his voice was going. thank goodness for opening acts--that was the WORST show I went to last year.
Dennis Miller was @ the Borgata last April, and his show was excellent. I like when he gets going--shouting and such.
The BEST show I saw last year was Howie Mandel. He was loads of fun, and was talking and taking pics with audience members. We had to watch this horribly funny video of a guy singing off-key on a variety show. The song is guaranteed to get stuck your head for days after...I saw him 2 months ago, and I'm still singing that song.
I also saw Jay Leno and Richard Jeni last year, and they were really good too. My boyfriend and I were so disappointed with Carlin though--we were so excited--the opening left us in complete awe, b/c he was like a machine gun firing out his "Modern Man" monologue.
If Howie Mandel is performing local to any of you, definitely try and get tickets (and if you can afford it, attempt to get within the first few rows--it allows for an incredible experience, and lots of interaction).
Chestnuts roasted by Allison @ 01/25/2006 05:30 PM EST
Carlin, I've never seen live, but I did write him for an autograph, and got a reply for that one. (He was snubbed by Danny Kaye (his idol) for an autograph once, and vowed he would always grant that request.)
I saw Richard Jeni in concert at the fair in CA. He was my favorite comedian at the time, so I was happy to catch him.
Howie Mandel I saw years ago. Before the Bobby cartoon, but he did was doing Bobby back then. It was shortly after Little Monsters had come out.
If I had been smarter about what I wanted to do with my life when I was in CA I would have tried to intern for Dennis Miller, too. Or, the Henson company.

I figured out who sang the torture song on the looped video at Howie Mandel's show--it was...Lawrence Welk! A formidable foe to all youngesters EVERYWHERE!! The video had him singing "Oh Happy Day" in a yellow three-piece suit. Oh my god, no one caught on right away that the video was looped--it went on for ten minutes (after about 4 minutes, there was a sing-along going on).
Here's the catch--Howie was watching on a monitor the whole time, laughing at the reactions the audience had. the song continued for ten minutes, the stopped, and evryone cheered...until the tape rewound itself. You should have heard the "NOOOOOOOOOO!" in the audience!!!
Chestnuts roasted by Allison @ 01/25/2006 06:49 PM EST
Hey gang--try and get ur hands on some "DiC" videos or DVDs--apparently, they are still using the infamous "Kid in Bed" logo (honestly, how dated does the video of this kid look--he's probably in his twenties now), BUT, they are showing a different DiC logo--it's now "The Wonderful World of DiC." Hey, I' just the messanger--maybe they've changed this since, but supposedly they started using it again in 2003. I hope they changed that choppy zoom out, but since they may very likely be using the 1987 logo, I bet it's that choppy zoom out.

Chestnuts roasted by ZiZak @ 01/26/2006 10:02 AM EST
For those of you who love spicy things, Lawry's makes a Tabasco seasoned salt as well. It's really good (not too hot or I wouldn't be able to eat it.) I've only ever seen it on the Tabasco website. By the way, if you love Tabasco and have never visited the Tabasco Country Store (countrystore.tabsco.com), you're missing out. My husband LOVES Tabasco, so I get him stuff all the time. For Christmas, I got him three bottles of the new Sweet 'N' Spicy Flavor that I believe is currently only available on the website. (Well, obviously, that's not all I got him.) Plus, I always give him a bunch of those miniature bottles in his stocking. That's because if he doesn't have them, he'll seriously lug his full-size bottle anywhere he anticipates wanting to use Tabasco (restaurants, friends' dinner parties...it can get embarrassing.) Anyway, just a tip for pepper sauce fans.

Saffron is the most expensive food by weight on earth. It is derived from crushing the stamens of a particular species of crocus. The cultivation and processing of up to 100,000 flowers is required to produce one pound of saffron. It has been used as paint pigment, a fabulously expensive flavoring, and a spurious cure for the Black Death.
And now you know.

Apologies in advance for a long post. I just want to explain my position. Hope no one hates me for it!
Darth Poop
I can understand the point you're making. I lurk here much more often than I actually post, and so I am aware that you're pretty much a vet, and I respect you as a poster. Respectfully, though, I must disagree with you. I don't feel that I outright insulted anyone, as I am certainly capable of it. If that was my intention, my post would have said something more like "Hey, it looks like the 9 year old AOLers found X-E!" My point was that Stacy R.'s post contained some major irony, and not the delicious variety.
I am fully aware of what net speak is. I grew out of it around 13 or 14, when I realized that it's really not helping anything if it takes people twice as long to decipher what you're trying to say simply because you want to save a few keystrokes. You think me inconsiderate for pointing out my lack of patience with those unwilling to even attempt to fit in a little bit with a well-worded and properly typed post, but I find those people to be guilty of a greater inconsideration. Of what are now over 200 posts in this thread, exactly 3 are in net speak. The other 197+ are composed in more-or-less proper English. Analogously, if one were to travel to France and insist on speaking English no matter what, then become outraged when the French expected you to at least attempt their language, which of these parties would you find to be more inconsiderate? I think you can guess my answer.
I'm not out to start a flame war or anything like that. However, saying "liek OMG I luv 2 liek rite n shizzle!!1!!" is a sad, sad ironic statement. It is considered common courtesy to put at least a little bit of effort into adopting local custom when visiting a strange community. That applies in both the real world and the cyber one.
I'm not claiming that I don't use the occasional acronym, and I love emoticons. These usually serve to enhance communication, though, whereas net speak generally serves to inhibit it, especially among people who choose to communicate clearly.
I'll climb down off of my soapbox now. I hope you can see where I'm coming from, and realize that I don't want to make any enemies, especially among you regulars.
oh, and uh... X-E iz liek ttly k3w1.

Holy balls, this post went crazy.
Allison: I had the macho man wrestling buddy, actually Big Boss Man was the only one I didn't have.
Also, The Office was great last night. It seems to get more gooder every week.
Stan: That's not a hate crime.
Michael:Well, I hated it.
Also, when Michael Scott was staring at the temp, Ryan, it reminded me of my office. Here, at my work, I also have some creepy dude who stares at me, actually two, and I'm a dude!
Chestnuts roasted by Geoffinsanity @ 01/27/2006 10:28 AM EST
Yup, that ending was quite heart warmy. There's an ep of the UK version where someone in the office creates a naughty picture of the boss and Gareth (the Dwight equivalent) is charged with investigating it. They actually based two different US episodes off it: the most recent one and also the one where Dwight gets put in charge of the health insurance...It's fun to watch the US version and look for the little bits of inspiration they pull from the original.
Any of you ladies out there watching Project Runway? If so, what the heck do you think is going on with Nick and Daniel?
My take on the "new poster" thing is that there are a bunch of names that I recognize and think of as newer, but that only comes after seeing it enough times that it stops being anonymous and I start knowing the style and personality of the writer. That would be my 2¢.
Chestnuts roasted by squee4242 @ 01/27/2006 10:51 AM EST

I haven't seen Pom Poko yet, but it's inevitable. Since it's a Miyazaki film, my wife will buy it sooner or later. Right now she's barreling her way through the Twelve Kingdoms anime series. She's watched 22 episodes in about 3 days. It's a 45-episode series. Kind of frightening, but it gave me time to finish Destroy All Humans and start Stubbs the Zombie, both on XBOX.

Most of my jobs have dealt with keeping consumers happy - convenience store clerk, 3 different call centers(hardware support, software support, and credit card cust. service), and now I handle payroll for the 100 or so employees at the credit card call center, so I have to keep them happy with their time while still adhering to policy.
What's really jaded me, though, is what seems to be most peoples' belief that the relative anonymity granted by operating a motor vehicle is license to abandon courteous behaviour. I can't stand jerks on the road.

I also worked at the Customer Service Desk at Wal-Mart for a long time. A lot of getting screamed at by Rednecks. Weirdest return excuse I ever heard, "Well, I was wondering what's been making my crotch itch lately!" Apparently she didn't realize you're supposed to take your yucky bath mats OUT of the tub if you're taking a bath. Ewe.
As far as Pom Poko, I've been meaning to see that for the past 10 years! My bff in high school had a copy, and I never got around to watching it. I have the soundtrack, though. Bought it from the TokyoPop Shop clearance a while back. Way before they were doing manga.

I was blessed with a job interview today that turned into a quickie hiring! I went to Boscov's this morning after being called in regard to a resume I submitted regarding a job posting in the paper. It is a Employee Customer Relations position, and it is just me, attempting to provide incentives for employees to push credits, and to take different approaches for customers to open credits if any approaches fail. It is also to make the job fun for the employees. I have little experience in this type of work (I have 2 1/2 years experience in retail, but that's about it...), and I was still hired. Hey, I'm a blank slate--they can teach me what they want!
And, Mystie, baths don't exactly make you clean. Maybe that's why her crotch was itching...ewwwwww!

Oh yeah, we returned the bath mat. My Wal-Mart took EVERYTHING back. Opened DVDs, used PS2s, vaginal cream, eaten food, air conditioners someone used all summer, used Halloween costumes. One time we had a customer take a vacuum cleaner right off the shelf, bring it up to customer service and ask for their money back on it. Management approved the return because no one actually saw him take it up, but the alarm tag hadn't been deactivated on it. I was pretty much told by them to give the customers whatever the hell they want, regardless of if they deserve it or not.

Last year I was there it was nearly $1.5 million in shrink. Then they had another inventory a few months later, the store manager padded it, they found out, and she was demoted to assistant.
Terrible store. Once the overnight assistant manager was caught on tape screwing one of the girls from grocery in the back office. Doubled her hours on payroll, too. They fired him, he threatened to sue for there being no sign about the camera, and they gave him his job back and transferred him to another store. I could go on for hours about bad Wal-Mart stories. @_@

I've been trying to copy images from my Akira DVD to my computer but it doesn’t work. I press fn then print screen and put on a paint document. After I save it to my computer the image goes black. Any ideas?
Chestnuts roasted by Darth Poop @ 01/28/2006 09:08 PM EST
What format are you saving in? I've often found my pictures get all screwy if I don't save them as .BMPs
Chestnuts roasted by Rhino @ 01/28/2006 09:10 PM EST
Rhino- Monochrome, 16 color, 256 color, or 24 bit .BMPs?
Chestnuts roasted by Darth Poop @ 01/28/2006 09:21 PM EST
24bit. I think it goes wonky because it can't process the colors otherwise
Chestnuts roasted by Rhino @ 01/28/2006 09:25 PM EST
I just tried every single one and none work. It did work a couple times but when I saved a new image the previous image saved would become the new image so I would have two of the same image. Is the DVD designed to fuck with me like this? Does it want to keep its thumbs?
Chestnuts roasted by Darth Poop @ 01/28/2006 09:26 PM EST
SNT! SNT! Come forth!
In Living Color marathon is on, I guess that's my night. =P
Chestnuts roasted by Matt(#2?) @ 01/28/2006 09:27 PM EST
For most DVDs, Windows Movie Maker should work fine. The Print Screen key doesn't work most of the time because the DVD layer doesn't go through the GDI on many systems.
If it doesn't work in Movie Maker, you'll need to download a third-party screencap program. And good luck with that.
Chestnuts roasted by Jedoc @ 01/28/2006 09:28 PM EST
Sorry my dark stinky Lord. I tried.
Chestnuts roasted by Rhino @ 01/28/2006 09:30 PM EST
Thanks all for the help.
Chestnuts roasted by Darth Poop @ 01/28/2006 09:31 PM EST
Oh, and one more thing: the program you use to play the video is more important than the program you use to capture the image, because Windows Media Player, Quicktime, and several other video players are specifically designed to disallow screen shots. Because they hate.
Chestnuts roasted by Jedoc @ 01/28/2006 09:32 PM EST
Yeah, it takes a capture of the stream of the video. If you pushed play again you'd notice the video will start to play in paint. I usually wind up running my videos through TMPGEnc to get screen grabs. There's a way to mess with wmp to allow the print screen thing, but I can't recall how it's done. Maybe try videohelp.com?
Chupacabra! I almost went back down to Zern's today, it's only like a 30 minute drive for me. Maybe next weekend. If you ever see a girl walking around that's 5'9" and looks like a cross between Kirsten Dunst and Miss Piggy, that'd be me.
Chestnuts roasted by Mystie @ 01/28/2006 09:52 PM EST
Wait wait wait...Kirsten Dunst doesn't already look like Miss Piggy? I was under the impression she does (facially, at least).
Chestnuts roasted by mtrox @ 01/28/2006 10:10 PM EST
All I had to do was right click and capture the image. I was trying to do all of this complicated stuff and in the end the solution was a click away. Needless to say I now have some great animation cells saved on my computer.

well, I just got Police Academy 2 & 3 on 1 DVD at Wal-Suck for $7, so that's all good! Otherwise, the last movie I watched was BASEketball, which, IMO, is not as good as Orgasmo. Obviously, any movie with Luke Skywalker and Ron Jeremy as Jizzmaster Zero will be better than a sports-related movie, unless you could Unneccessary Roughness, which is a really kick-ass movie! hehe.

Hey kidney have you seen Cannibal! The Musical? I've always enjoyed it the most of the Parker/ Stone live action hits. It's funnier than Orgazmo, and of course it's way better than Baseketball. If you listen to the commentary track you can totally tell it cuts off for 10 minutes because the weedman shows up...same thing happens on Orgazmo too, actually.
If it's SN and there are people posting in the T than it's the SNT. What more do you need?

I love Cake! I have and enjoy all of their albums, although I was initially hesitant with how electronic their new one sounded. I just bought their cover of Mahna Mahna from the Muppet Show on iTunes. Great stuff.
Squee:
Cannibal is one of my favorites. I can't even count the number of lines and phrases I've coopted from that movie and inserted into my regular life. Of course there's "Shpladoinkle," but there's also my typical "Your life isn't so bad" response. "At least you didn't get your head stuck in that thing."
Chestnuts roasted by mtrox @ 01/29/2006 06:40 AM EST
Well, that didn't turn out so bad. I ended up reading an article about WWII era pin-up art, colloquially known as "cheesecake." I then developed a fierce craving for cheesecake and found an interesting recipe for overnight slow-bake one-pot Italian cheesecake in my cookbook and drove to the super Walmart to purchase a springform pan and several pounds of cream cheese. Though the recipe was fairly simple, it did indirectly cause me to lose still more faith in my community. I discovered that if a disheveled, unshaven, wild-eyed man wearing pajama pants stumbles into the liquor store down the street at three AM and demands a liter of brandy, they will sell it to him. God Bless Texas.
Anyway, in six to eight hours, I am certain that I will be enjoying the best insomnia-induced slow-bake cheesecake in the history of the world. Hooray for sleep disorders! And, I mean, at least I didn't get my head stuck in that thing, right?

Sorry Mystie, but that revelation about Wal-Mart's return policy just convinced me never to shop there! That and the fact that the Waltons are grade A a-holes.
Heh, now I'm sure people who work the night shifts at liquor stores have some especially good stories to tell.
Now I'll shoot-what was probably the unhealthiest kids' breakfast cereal EVER? (I certainly wouldn't know off the top of my head; my parents NEVER would dream of buying us stuff like Lucky Charms or Cookie Crisp, though they did occasionally get some Cocoa Puffs or Cinnamon Toast Crunch.)

Inspector Gadget - Wowzer! That was one show I never really bought into. I LOVED the concept, the gadgets, the dog Brain, and IG himself... but I never cared much for the cartoon.
Chestnuts roasted by Carri @ 01/30/2006 01:33 AM EST
I never buy shows on DVD unless ALL off the series is already avialable on DVD. A lot of shows just don't do good enough to warrant that many releases so then you get stuck with half the series which is worse than nothing at all.

Fashion Nugget is indeed one of my favorite albums of all time, and I really need to get some more of their stuff. mtrox, you say they covered the Manamana song?! I must find this. Damn me not having Internet at home...I really need to call the cable guy. And if Jim Carrey shows up at my house, I'm going to scream. Because that movie was awful.
Mystie, the boyfriend and I just watched Disney's Aladdin on VHS last night, because I finally figured out how to hook up the VCR. Then we had a good laugh over the people who think one of the towers on my The Little Mermaid cover is supposed to be a penis. God, people are such idiots.
Wal-Mart is my favorite place on earth. I know, I know, it's the seventh layer of hell, but honestly people...the savings. The savings! This is just my opinion though, so....
Actually Live Action Tetris would beat those 2 out ALONG with the Super Mario Bro.'s movie...

The only video game movie that I ever really thought was any good was the first Mortal Kombat movie. I'm afraid to watch it again, though, because I would probably have to remove it from my list of good video game movies. The second one was absolutely horrible, though. They're supposedly making another one that will have continuity with the first and pretend the second one was never made. I may or may not give it a chance.
I picked up two greatest hits albums this weekend: Queen and Stone Temple Pilots. The Queen one isn't the same one I remember my dad owning in the late 80s. It doesn't have Boehmian Rhapsody or Flash on it, which kind of sucks. The Stone Temple Pilots one is good stuff, except it makes me kind of sad that bands I listened to in middle/high school now have "greatest hits" compilations. Awfully convenient, though. They were $10 each at Best Buy.
Chestnuts roasted by ZiZak @ 01/30/2006 01:08 PM EST
Sorry for the double post, but I also wanted to mention that I saw an Alanis Morissete compilation this weekend. The sticker on the front said "Contains Alanis Morissette's most recognizable hits". I thought that wording was hilarious, as opposed to just "greatest hits". It's almost insulting, really.
Chestnuts roasted by ZiZak @ 01/30/2006 01:11 PM EST
ZiZk - I'll have you know all my tunes are hits! Their greatness is beyond the ability to sort!!! I used the wording "recogniable hits" because I didn't want to belittle those great songs which the public is too stupid to love.

The heads for the Dinosaurs characters are (or they were when I was there some 6 or 7 years ago) located in the Disney prop wherehouse in Burbank. They were up near the ceiling. Robby's head was missing, though. They also had the arcade sign from Tron, Simon Birch's Tombstone, and a mask from Scream.

ZiZak I happen to be a Queen fanatic (although their current tour, I think, made me physically ill) and I would like to shed some light on your Greatest Hits dilemma.
Ok.
Queen put out Greatest Hits many years ago, then subsequently released GH Vols. 2 and 3.
About, oh, seven or eight years ago they released "Queen's Greatest Hits" and "Classic Queen" which have almost the same songs as GH Vol. 1&2, but are different albums.
Favorite band or no, I really hate it when groups do this. Hope I was able to clear up some confusion.

mtrox, I've seen the pilot episode of Twin Peaks, and I liked it. It is a little more light-hearted than the movie. I wonder if the series has made its way out onto DVD yet? Have to check Amazon, I guess...
Can't remember if it was this thread we were discussing Black Cherry Vanilla Coke on or not (and I ain't rereading 390+ comments to find out, heh)...but I got a bottle at my friendly neighborhood Rite-Aid today. I like it. It's kinda weird at first, because I could taste the black cherry and the vanilla and the Coke and it was too much for my taste buds to process. But I like it. Which means it'll probably go the way of my beloved Pepsi Holiday Spice. *sigh*

Thanks for the explanation attempt. I could have saved myself the trouble by just looking at the song list before purchasing, and it's really not THAT big a deal. I still like it, but I miss those two songs I mentioned.

You can get Twin Peaks season 1(minus the pilot) on DVD. You'll be better off finding it used(do you have a Movie Trading Company near you?), though. Season 2 has been in limbo for a few years now, but will hopefully see release by the end of the year. There have been a lot of problems with rights, schedule conflicts(I believe David wants to oversee the transfer to DVD himself), this and that. As far as all of his films go, I'd have a hard time choosing between Blue Velvet, Lost Highway, and Mulholland Dr as my fav. You know he's currently working on a new one called Inland Empire, right? I think it should also be out by the end of the year, and I can't wait.

Queen (or, more accurately Brian May and Roger Taylor) are touring right now with Paul Rodgers (of Bad Company and Free 'fame') as frontman. I remember seeing the rarely seen series finale of "Dinosaurs" on the Disney Channel a couple of years back. It was one of the saddest endings I've ever seen for a comedy. Historically accurate maybe, but still sad.
I would want to see Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart as movies. Same goes with A Boy and His Blob, Earthbound, Battletoads, Ghouls & Ghosts, Big Nose the Caveman, Grand Theft Auto, the Sims, and ANY sports film that features the majority of it's casts in bikinis or naked.

Something strangely aggravating just happened...for the first time ever, my neighbor pounded on my front door and demanded that I turn my stereo down. Admittedly, I had it cranked a tad loud, but I've been living next to this guy for about 18 months and he's never griped at me before. He was obviously angry, speaking to me in a pissy tone and even holding what appeared to be a wooden stick in his hand. He must've been expecting some sort of physical confrontation, but happily it didn't come to that.

I've heard of "Redneck Zombies," but I've never watched it. The video store I worked at had a copy of Caution...Children at Play on VHS eons ago (they pulled it due to inactivity eons ago as well). I don't do drugs, but I can't keep a straight face when I watch Bordello of Blood--that is a nightmarish guilty pleasure. I may watch it tomorrow night b/c I already have my 1st day off from my new job on Wednesday!
That's right--I started working @ Boscov's today--Customer Employee Relations Manager!! I really liked it so far. I have to pick songs every Tuesday for Tune Tuesday, and trivia questions for Trivia Thursday. I help put together a newsletter for Fridays, and have to keep track of credits and motivate employees to push for credits. I have this kickass huge office (w/a fridge that the PR Manager shares with me--but its ok--we work hand in hand on some projects) all to myself, and I gotta decorate it.
I put up this Garfield tear-off day calendar day from last year, and he is dancing with Pookie, and says at the end "Enjoy the small things, and the big things will take care of themselves." I also plan on taking my stand-up comedy day calendar with me for my desk, and I need pics. I may also get some of those coloring pages of cartoons characters for my walls. LOL.

I honestly don't get the scariness behind Screen Gems' S From Hell. Viacom V of Doom is creepy, but the scare factor is removed once you experience this video of the V of Doom sped up--it zooms out and in twice before it zooms out to that ominous music. I need to see this one on TV, but its not even possible.

As far as movies inspired by video-games go, I agree wholeheartedly that the first "Mortal Kombat" film is the only halfway decent vg-flick ever produced. I understand that "God of War" has recently been optioned as a movie script, which would have huge potential given the game's story and visuals. If this was a movie we need plot twists, love interests, explosions, comedy, car chases, etc.
I'll start it off by throwing a bottle of moltive cocktail Jones Soda out of the sliding door of the A-team van while my driver speeds away from a burning lab with prototype transformers chasing us.
Where are we going? Why are we running? What is in the breif case that is hand cuffed to my wrist? Who is the mysterious driver? You choose the adventure............

I've heard that the latest rash of video game movies have been horrible. Not that I've seen any of them. I'm mildly intrigued by the thought of the Dungeon Siege movie that's coming out, however...I've recently been trapped back into that game. I had forgotten I have a guide for it, so now I actually get to find everything instead of only randomly hacking and slashing.
In other news, the cable guy is coming on Saturday to hook up the digital cable and cable Internet for a mere $69.95/month. I shall have to restrain myself from licking his probably gross boots in sheer glee. And that means, I can actually participate in SNTs again. Yay!
I don't know who'd play me in this thread-movie. I'd only have a bit part. Oh, hell, let's go for Angelina Jolie.

Matt’s bleeding because some Night Creepers have gone rouge. The rouge Night Creepers are now systematically killing off Cobra agents who have been placed in seats of power in governments throughout the world. Cobra Commander has hired a select few to hunt down these rouges two of these mercenaries of mayhem being Fox and Matt. In the heat of the battle Matt took a shurikan to the chest.
Chestnuts roasted by Darth Poop @ 01/31/2006 04:26 PM EST
And now some prototype transformers, constructed by a rouge Autobot, who has stolen the creation matrix, are after Fox and Matt as they speed away. I'm not sure why the Autobot has joined forces with the Night Creepers, most likely to help kill off the Cobra agents. Then he will probably turn on the Night Creepers.

Don't forget that along the way, they pick up a cooler with a vital organ (never explained which one, just adds to the mystery) for the little orphan girl to save her life via an experimental operation to be performed by a defrocked rebel surgeon, using an advanced technique that requires Silly Putty, nanotech Lego blocks, and a Carpenters album. Either it succeeds, or she explodes. The organ is to be played by Danny DeVito, the surgeon by Ronnie James Dio.

Cobra, Scott Baio, and R.O.B. are all working together to to help bring in the greatest evils of there worlds. And the entry point:
Castle Dracula in Wildwood, NJ.
See, that's the "reality anchor" for every other reality. Every reality has there very own Castle Dracula, which is actually a gateway to other realities. In every reality, that exact spot looks exactly the same. Cobra Commmander, Baio (that scumbag) and R.O.B. want to be able to create more of these and be eable to bring themselves and whatever they want at any point, at any time.
The only thing capable of stopping them is Danny DeVito, or rather, the organ. The Surgeon knows this, but no none else does. Stacy's shorthand was a way to distract the X-E Blog posters so we'd be pre-occupied with that instead of payind attention as to what REALLY was going on....!
Of course, we don't find this out until about an hour into the movie. Well after a ton of explosions, some Kuse on Mare action, and an entire Banana factory goes up in smoke....along with a major city....

The movie's theme song will be "We Built This City" from the Starship album "Knee Deep in the Hoopla." During the opening credits we'll all stand there in utter curiosity as a giant dice rolls down the street of a unnamed major city.
And kingklash, I'm played by Betty Boop???? LOL. Can I be played by Rainbow Brite instead? LOL. Betty Boop is fine though. I'm not picky. :-D
I still like my "We Built This City" idea.
Oooh, @ work today, my second day, we had "Tune Tuesday," in which I had to pick 5 songs to play over the PA system to get everyone revved for the workday. I played "Baby Elephant Walk," "Volare," "Come On-A My House," "The Entertainer," and "Oh Happy Day" (a cheesy 50s song sung by Lawrence Welk, not to be confused with the religious song of the same name). I got laughs from the Lawrence Welk song. My boss was hysterical laughing the whole time (Tune Tuesday is an exclusive thing to the Atlantic City-area Boscov's). Co-workers in the store have to call three different numbers in thestore managers office to guess to songs--the prize is a free lunch--too bad it's at Gyromania, not that I've been there, but the Shore Mall has a crappy food court.

Kingklash- Loving your XE movie idea, as well as 'The Wizard 2: Revenge of the Power Glove'; where Lucas is a fat old bum determined to get his glory back and Jimmy is pimped right out ever since his big win in LA. I'D buy it.

Shit. I wish I was a boy. Then I could be played by Corey Feldman. He is the center of my childhood universe. ('The Goonies', 'Gremlins', 'Stand By Me', 'TMNT 1 AND 3' and 'The Burbs') Wow. Man, I should write him a fan letter. I STILL LOVE HIM.

Favorite SNL sketches:
Dennis Miller's Weekend Update
Wayne's World (1990 on)
Celeb Jeopardy
Long Island Girls--commercial parody w/Alec Baldwin
Iron Chef (that one w/Charlie Sheen)
Dateline (when Rob Lowe played Stone Phillips--"The
Trampoline...harmless plaything or backyard danger?"
Buddy Precisely (wait at the bar...)
Sex Tonight (Kevin Nealon and Jan Hooks play characters hosting a sex-esque Entertainment Tonight--Hooks plays Jessica Hawn)
The Stand-Ups
The Anal Retentive Guy (especially the Chef one--I do impersonations of this--my mom thinks its hysterical)
Land Shark (when I was 16, my dad got me hooked on 70's reruns by buying me a Saturday Night Live video for 1975, and I LOVED Landshark)
Church Lady (probably b/c my mom hates this character--I'm just a sap over anything Dana Carvey does)
The Crosby Bunch (I honestly haven't seen this rerun since I was 15--Phil Hartman plays Bing Crosby as the abusive daddy his kids claimed he was--Dana Carvey, Jan Hooks, and Dennis Miller played 3 of his children--Miller was Nathaniel and Hooks was Mary, can't recall who Carvey was--I heard the kids Miller and Carvey played died (Nathaniel died by suicide, I think, and Carvey's character I think had cancer)--this sketch was a take-off of the Cosby Show when Malcom Jamal Warner hosted in '86, and Theo dreamed he was part of another family--great for the fact that Hartman takes Carvey, Miller, and Hooks into another room and whips them w/a belt.
I, for one, love Carol!!!! My boyfriend goes hysterical every time I do a Carol impression, "I'M CAROL!"
Barry Gibb Talk Show (the boyfriend and I sing the song)
Master Thespian
Debbie Downer (my boyfriend loves the Thanksgiving one, with the feline AIDS line--the cat meow)--I really shouldn't like this, it's not exactly hysterical, but it's kind of a guilt pleasure)
Jarrett's Room--I ALWAYS loved this!
Jingleheimer Junction--don't tell me everyone forgot this!!! My dad watched it w/me, and we kept cracking up when Horatio Sanz was Umberto Union and tried to get in after the "F." Those censor screens were hysterical!
TV Funhouse--particularly the 25th Anniversary one.

oooh, I almost forgot:
Dolly's Story--the one where Dolly Parton tells her "mountain stories," but they turn out to be synopses for popular television shows--the casts' staged reactions to her stories are hysterical--the conversation they had afterward was really funny. They weren't reading cue cards, so I wonder if they were free to ad-lib on this one. Aired in early 1989.
Drill Sgt.--Phil Hartman plays a R. Lee Ermey-esque, Full Metal Jacket-type drill sgt. who screams and gives his cadets new nicknames--classic stuff--Kevin Nealon's character was supposed to laugh during this, but Nealon looked like he was BARELY holding on. Classic to see Carvey flinch when Hartman screams in his face--he kept blinking. Dennis Miller isn't much of an actor but he managed to stare straight ahead--probably what kept him from laughing.
Nude Beach--the classic controversial sketch that was the predecessor to Canteen Boy (which was good the 1st time). Even more ironically, I have the Best of Tom Hanks, and this was a dress rehersal sketch that was cut--it resurfaced several eps later recasted (Dennis Miller replaced Hanks, Nealon remained in character, Carvey remained as his character, Matthew Broderick played Jon Lovitz's characer in the recasting)
The 5 Beatles--classic! I just absolutely love this sketch from '88! Matthew Broderick played John Lennon, Dana Carvey played Paul McCartney (naturally), Dennis Miller played George Harrison, and Jon Lovitz played Ringo Starr. The "5th" Beatle was Phil Hartman as a balding trombone player.
Family Ties flashbacks--from 1988--Jon Lovitz played Nick, and Kevin Nealon's beard falls off--classic.
Choppin' Broccoli--Dana Carvey looks like he's putting his heart and soul into something that's so, well...rediculous. this is so funny!
The political sketches.
TV Funhouse's "Spot the Black People at the Knicks Game."
Sinatra Group.
Napster hearings (I was watching this tape recently)
And...my favorite guilty pleasure sketch...
Moleculo...the "Molecular Man!"
I really didn't mean to add this many--I have lots of faves!

From the top--
Dear Nicole,
I found Fire, Walk With Me at Family Dollar today for $5, and now I hear it's at Walmart for $3.88??? I could've gotten a coffee at the gas station with that $1.12. And I would definitely recommend watching the show, BUT, as someone said, wait till the whole thing is out on dvd. It gets very confusing and suspenseful and if you cant watch to the end you might go mad. I used to be in love with Kyle MacLachlan--15 years ago before his face sagged ala Sex and the City and that new sucky show. I'd still hit it.
Which leads us to:
Dear Whoever said they didnt like Sprockets,
I loved Sprockets! My favorite was the one with Kyle MacLachlan. It can be seen on Mike Myers' Best of DVD. It was only my favorite because of my love and devotion to him at the time. But it's still good.
Dear Allison,
Your new job sounds like soooo much fun. Think of all the weirdness you can bring to that place! I like the Barry Gibb talk show song too, and Debbie Downer makes my boyfriend and I choke with laughter. At least it did the first couple times. Stuff like that gets played out pretty quickly.
My other favorites are the ones where Will Ferrell and Rachel Dratch are in the hot tub calling eachother "lover" and eating weird meats and talking about orgies. Just creepy. In a funny way.
And I think Carol is stupid, but for some reason it still makes me laugh.
And last but not least, is this the same thread that was discussing tabasco? Tobasco Cheez-its (crackers) are like my favorite thing in the world.

Well, MY topic was actually NOT Reocurring SNL Sketches, but rather, for ones that ran one-time. Allison basically took up the whole topic on that.
My favorite one-time sketches:
-Jimgleheimer Junction (each censor card depicting a train wreck getting progressively worse)
-the Crystal Gravy ad (the MOST Disturbing ad EVER)
-Moleculo: THE MOLECULAR MAAAAN!
-The Sinatra Group
-James Brown In The Hot Tub
-Canteen Boy Goes Camping (Canteen Boy makes an appearance in a later episode with Jason Alexander hosting)
-the showdown of Partridge Family & the Brady Bunch
-Behind The Music: Fat Albert (Tracy Morgan as Fat Albert and Tim Meadows as Mushmouth)
-Behind The Music: Blue Oyster Cult (the famous Cowbell Sketch)
-the Drunken Asses (the ad where a bunch of drunk singers sing your favorite bar songs, and because they're all tanked, none of them are able to sing the complete song)
-the 1st Debate of Al Gore & George W (strategery)
-Hi-C and Turkey (a sketch about an insurance broker played by Danny Aiello not leaving a house because he wanted Hi-C & Turkey)
-Colonel Angus
-the LI Girls ad as well, because it relates to me SO much, being from LI and all. And yes, they do talk like that.
-The Chippendales Audition with Chris Farley & Patrick Swayze
-Wake Up & Smile (where a talk show celebrates its 20th anniversary show when the teleprompter breaks. Everyone in that sketch is Just. Freaking. Brilliant.)
Possibly my favorite Dana Carvey sketch can be summed up in 3 words: Massive Headwound Harry.
and one of my all-time favorites: the sketch where all of the Recurring SNL Characters in the early 90s (save for Tim Meadows) did a We Are The World-esque song about "Fire Bad!" (it was titled by Phil Hartman's Frankenstein). It had just about every major reocurring character: Cajun Man, the Superfans, Pat, David Spade in Hollywood Minute mode, Frankenstein, Wayne Cambell, Matt Foley, Queen Shaniqua, Nat X, Richmeister, Hanz & Franz and the rest of the casts' characters except for Tim Meadows, who didn't have one at the time
Forgot some more favorite reocurring characters:
-Matt Foley, motivational speaker
-Astronaut Jones, if not for his X-E-like cheesey theme song
-Master Thespian
-The Herlihy boy
-The Ladies Man
-Debbie Downer (the ones this season were actually funny)
-Church Lady
-Dog Show (Mr. Bjangles is really a girl! Mr. Bojangles is really a girl!)

Least Favorites:
the musical guests, takes like 30 minutes from the show with commercials.

kingklash I laughed out loud when you said Zaphod would play me, but then
By the way, I mean the Mark Wing-Davies Zaphod from the TV Show. was the icing on the cake...the only Zaphod that I would approve of playing me!!
"They Live" with Rowdy Roddy Piper is on Sci-Fi right now!! Yay!
See you all in the next thread!

Here's a pretty topic for ya. You've heard of whale songs, but did you know mice sing too? Read all about it and then have a listen. http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn8237

I meant to say "pretty trippy", not just "pretty". I dunno what human would find this pretty, although there certainly are worse sounds in the world. Fingernails scraping over rusty metal, for one. (Worse than nails over a chalkboard in my opinion.) Pass the hookah my way, please.

Darth Galvatron, I didn't say I was looking forward to the Dungeon Siege movie...just that I'm intrigued. I'd never pay to see one of Boll's movies, though. On the other hand, I tend to love crappy movies, so who knows.
schroeder (et. al.): Thanks for the Twin Peaks DVD tips. I'll wait a bit and keep an eye out before I start watching. Oh, and I have this theory that Kyle MacLachlan always plays Coop. Case in point: The Hidden. If you haven't seen this little piece of cinema holy-crap-what-in-the-fuck, you must go rent it. So there's Kyle, who's Coop all over again, and an alien slug who likes sex, guns, blowing shit up, rock n' roll and fast cars, some weird laser thing, oh, and a stripper who sucks at stripping. Yes. All this can be yours. At least there's music by Concrete Blonde. And there was a sequel, which I have yet to see/scar myself with. And I don't watch Sex and the City, but the one commercial I saw with Kyle, he had the Coop suit on, just with a pink shirt and tie. I don't know whether he's typecast or he's just really Coop. Also, my FWWM DVD may have been cheaper because the plastic wrapper was ripped. Because you know, that totally ruins the DVD experience. *eyeroll*

Mystie: I actually drank like half a bottle of blue food coloring (colouring if you're British!) to see if it would turn my colon sausage blue. It didn't. It turned green. ???
Darth Poop: To be honest, I barely remeber that episode. I though Stu was Tarzan and Drew was King Kong. That could have been another episode though.
I do remeber the little kiddies seeing a bowl of spaghetti and saying, "Worms!" In another episode, however, they saw worms and called it, "chocolate spaghetti." Oh the incontinuity.
Kind of like when Homey the clown tried to balloons instead of condoms and condoms instead of balloons.
Yeah, I'm so cool.

Those Micro-Magic products? They were made by a company called J.R. Simplot, which I knew better as a phosphate mining company (my father's family grew up in the Simplot company town of Conda, Idaho). Kinda turned me off to their stuff when I realized who was making this food; I didn't know then that they were an agribusiness company and I had some strange ideas about how mining and junk food were connected.
(Anyone remember their microwavable shakes? That's when I knew we were in the End Times. Microwavable MILKSHAKES, for crissake!)

I remember Smiles! They were flippin' nice. They used to sell them at lunch at school, which was none too long ago.
In Australia, we don't have any colour changing pudding. None of that crazy stuff.

Well, now I know that if I ever under some circumstance am invited to your apartment, I should not eat any of the food. Which brings up the question, do you actually have anything edible in your house?

So, what'd people think of the Super Bowl? I just wish the Seahawks had played a bit better. Yeah, I was rooting for them. I still recognize sloppy play when I see it.

You know Smilies are available in pretty much all supermarkets in the UK! Mmm post night out snack...

Also, Smiley fries are served regularly in my Highschool's cafeteria. Disgusting.

Those blue fries were possibly the most revolting thing I've ever seen.

Speaking of fishtanks, and forgotten brine shrimp in the freezer; on my last visit to american Science and Surplus in west chicago, I bought a remote controled sub to chase the fish around in the tank and I'm here to tell you that will never fail to entertain!

a picture of the sub. Chasing a blue crayfish around on the bottom is the best! Sometimes he'll try to fight it but mostly he runs. We also have a smaller 30gal tank with a 14" largemouth bass in it, when I threw in the sub, he tried to eat it.
