Now this may come as a surprise to you, since you're reading it on the Internet, but my most cherished posession is my computer. After all, out of my top ten favorite daily activities, my computer provides probably half a dozen. Oh, Nightrider Jr. Where would I be without you?
Shocking answer: probably getting some exercise out in the fresh air.

My packet of Purplesaurus Rex that I opened today! It's definately replicatable but it was hard to make because I had to put it in the blender to mix it up because it was so old and chunky. It's truly the nectar of the gods with it's purpleness and one-of-a-kind taste. Once I'm done replicating the recipie of good ol' Purplesaurus, I'll post it here. Good to be a kool-aid alchemist!

Happy Saturday all
My cell phone/web browser/PDA is one of my more valuable possesions...when wildfires got a bit close to our neighborhood my DVD collection was the first thing I gathered together once I'd packed up all the puppy toys because I realized it's what I would miss the most. It's less of a possesion than if it was on paper but my LiveJournal archive means a lot to me too (whereas I don't care as much about my old notebook journals as I once did). In fact my LJ means so much to me that I happily shelled out the $$$ when they offered permanent account status.

My most prized possession? I can't pick just one. It's either my home entertainment center (big screen, DVD, surround sound, computer, PS2 and Xbox 360) or my vintage collection of Transformers (Optimus Prime, Omega Supreme, Metroplex, Trypticon, Jetfire, Fortress Maximus, Scorponok, etc.) I spend more time looking at the home entertainment center, but I've had those TFs since I was a kid.

Man, I don't really have very many toys left over from when I was a kid. My action figures tended to live short lives but merry ones. And by "merry" I mean "horrific beyond all comprehension." Except my MOTU toys. I sold all of them, including Castle Greyskull, Snake Mountain, and three or four vehicles at a garage sale. I can't remember how much I got for them, but I'm sure the actual numbers would make me cry.

There's the DVD collection naturally. Well.... there is Beefy Tape. This old and crazy horifically amazing home video my best friend, her sister, and I shot some, oh, 8 years ago. Though I doubt many others would prize 15 year old me dancing to the theme to Fraggle Rock and playing with Sailor Moon dolls.

Prized possession... How on earth could I possibly just pick ONE!? I was going to say my computer because it's the first really big thing I bought on my own, but, the computer is pretty much a given, so I might have to go with my rather large collection of collectable Barbie Dolls... or my figurine collection, ranging from Anime to NHL to Nightmare Before Christmas. Possibly my DVD collection, too... But picking one specific item is just not possible!

My video collection, none of which are commercially bought. Well, I mean, I HAVE VHS movies, but those aren't the ones I cherish. I love the home movies and the stuff I taped off of TV in my childhood/adolescence that will never be released on DVD and I would otherwise have no hope of seeing again.

You know, Lori, I was going to jokingly warn you not to fast-forward through any commercials on your recorded programs, because that would be stealing from the corporation. And sure, most of us probably have a hard time feeling sorry for massive faceless companies, but on the other hand, when was the last time the CEO of a major corporation walked into your living room and started stealing your stuff?
And Ted Turner doesn't count. That dude's just crass.
But then I realized that most of the people on this board, given a tape full of old television shows, would probably end up fast forwarding through the programs just to get to the commercials. I wonder if the businesspeople of America recognize the treasure they have in people like us. We're like sheep that shear ourselves.
And that thought made me a little sad. But then I cheered myself up by wondering whether or not it's still considered wrong to fast forward through an advertisement for a product that no longer exists. Thoughts? Maybe later on this evening we can call up Ron Popeil and see what he has to say on the matter. Whatever it is, I imagine it'll be in an inhumanly enthusiastic tone of voice. "If you skip over any of my old ad spots, you deserve to rot in prison, you freeloading little bastards!!!"

but on the other hand, when was the last time the CEO of a major corporation walked into your living room and started stealing your stuff?
And Ted Turner doesn't count. That dude's just crass.
Heh.
But then I realized that most of the people on this board, given a tape full of old television shows, would probably end up fast forwarding through the programs just to get to the commercials. I wonder if the businesspeople of America recognize the treasure they have in people like us. We're like sheep that shear ourselves.
It's not exactly like THAT. Uncut VCR recordings from the late 70's and early 80's fascinate me, but not because I'm a slave. It's because it's a glimpse into how TV was back then; how that generation lived and worked, and what was normal for them. When the ads are cut out, the illusion is shattered. I want to see it ALL.
Doesn't anyone feel the same way I do about this? I think so. This is the real answer. This is why we "waste" bandwidth downloading nutty old ads--not because we're addicted to the products, or even because we remember them (I like ones I'm too young to remember even more). It's because whatever it is, it could never be run today. It's almost like a different world. Like I said, it's fascinating.

Mars, dude, my sister has a *massive* collection of videos from the mid-80s to current day programming all based around a band that is still touring successfully to this day. Anyway, as if the interviews from back in the day aren't funny enough, the ads are f-a-n-t-a-s-t-ic, especially when you consider most of them were pulled from MTV, or it's Canadian equivalent, Much Music. The evolution of products, the changes in tactics, renaming things to drop the "sugar" out of the name, the celebreity spokes people. Always a good time. Any time I get to see big 80's hair and neon spandex on guys, as well as ads for Bonkers!, Debbie Gibson's Electric Youth Perfume,I'm happy. But when you also get the PSAs for RADD and MADD and SADD, and Coventant House, Michael Jackson's fragrance, Pepsi's latest salvos in the Cola Wars, the ads for the Coca Cola Clothing line, and the classic mall stores ... and when you're really lucky, you get the French Canadian version too.

well, I guess tops on my list would be my kidney donated by my cousin. It saved my life, and that's no lie. I recieved it on August 14, 2002. That is a day I celebrate as my second birthday. And really, since my real birthday is Sept. 11, my kidney b-day is a much easier day to be happy on.
And then I would say anything that belonged to my dad. He committed suicide when I was 7 years old, so anything that was his is very important to me. I have his class ring, his baseball cards, and his glasses, and most important, his Stephen King books. Knowing that I'm reading the same books that he held in his hands is a powerful feeling. They are fragile, so I don't read them that much anymore...I have my own copies, but sometimes I still like to read his.
And those are my most prized possessions in the world.
Chestnuts roasted by kidneyboy @ 03/11/2006 11:47 PM EST
I shudder to think what Jack La Lanne will have to say when he realizes none of us own his Power Juicer, nor have any of us swam the English Channel (no, not BBC) w/ one arm tied behind our backs. He will be so disappointed that the sound of his voice did not inspire an entire nation to buy Patriotic leotards and stand on street corners, hands on hips and puffing out our chests like Superman. I can just imagine how it was when he met his first Elaine and bugled her into marrying him, b/c her Julia Gulia namesake would be such a draw to his customers.
... as I follow my tangent back up to the actual subject...
To be absolutely corny, I think my pictures are my most prized possession. I take a lot of pictures. Stems from the fact that my mom has no photographs of me between the ages of two until I got my own camera and started taking my own, around 16 or so. All I have to look back at my single digit childhood are school photos. The saddest part? I was an only child, so there really was no excuse.
Oh, wait - where did I put that tangent again?
Here it is.
After a brief pause, I just realized I have nothing more to say on the subject of "prized posession". I have no toys left over from childhood (my mom didn't even save my report cards! You may weep for me now
), and I don't really collect anything.
Well, except (kidneyboy is going to be so disappointed in me for not thinking of it sooner), my collection of Stephen King books. I have a copy (in one way or another) of everything he's ever written. I even have a signed copy of Insomnia, and a first run edition of The Dead Zone that my aunt gave me. I'm always in the process of rereading something by SK - esp his stuff written before 1986 (or, what I call, his Edgar Allen Poe period). Once he dried up, his writing just hasn't been the same.
Hey, I have a poll question - who is everyone's favorite cartoon voice artist? I have quite a few, but I would have to say, my absolute fav would have to be Clancy Brown. There's just something about the sound of the Kurgan that just grabs my attention. I swear, I can pick that voice out of a crowded... cartoon room. Besides Mr. Eugene H. Krabs, he also does Lex Luther in the Superman cartoons and a bunch of different characters on a few old Gargoyles eps. He even sang "Under the Sea" in the Little Mermaid II.
Ok, I think my knowledge of Mr. Brown's career is a bit too unhealthy. I'll stop now.

Onto prized possessions: I'd go with my sealed 8-pack of Ecto Cooler first and foremost if we're talking about random pop goodies. More personally affecting is a Tiki God statue that I've had forever, handed down to me from my older brother who picked it up somewhere in Disney in the late `70s. Well, my most expensive thing would be my collection of Star Wars toys or my DVD collection, but I don't think I prize them most highly.
Little stuff. A belt my best friend made for me out of twist ties. My friend's Dr. Zaius ID card...oh, there's a story there.
I took my friend's student ID and digitally pasted Dr. Zaius' head over his own. He used that monkey ID to take his SATs (you need valid photo ID), and when they looked at him questioningly, he told them he had leprosy. They let him take the test.
Crappy story...
Pictures, holiday greeting cards from my first girlfriend, the Emmett Otter's Jugband Christmas MP3's I made...
Another one is my Survivor dog-tag (like the TV show Survivor), which is my good luck charm. I've been applying since my 21st birthday to be on the show, and I feel like the tag is a good luck charm. I will make it. And I will be the first Survivor castaway to mention Peeps and XE on the air.

Larry Kenney - Lion-O
Earle Hyman - Panthro
You might also remember Earle from all his work as Bill Cosby's father on The Cosby Show.

Another thing I prize is my faux Tivo because it lets me catch so many things I'd never see otherwise (trashy daytime tv, syndicated reruns), plus I can watch all my favorite shows twenty minutes late and zip past the ads. Is that a scandalous admission? I recommend my favs to everyone so I feel like I make up for it.

I want to change my answer for most prized possession! I should have named my degree. I worked hard enough for it. Going back to school after you flunk out is HARD. They take away all those nice scholarships, which means you get to pay for that degree for a long time after you're done.
As for my favorite voice actor, I'd have to say Peter Cullen. He played Optimus Prime in the original Transformers. If you can't tell, I'm still a freak for the G1 TFs. I don't think I would have found Prime so cool/heroic if it wasn't for that awesome voice. He also did lots of other parts for TFs, most notably (for me) Ironhide. I checked IMDB, and he was in tons of other shows in the 80s like GI Joe (lots of parts, but Nemesis Enforcer was the coolest) and Knight Rider (as K.A.R.R.). I don't know who they've cast as Prime for the new TFs movie due out ?next year?, but I think I'd probably soil myself if they got Peter Cullen. Every time I hear him on a commercial voiceover, I feel like I'm listening to my childhood hero.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Chris Latta. He was Starscream and Cobra Commander, as well as lots of other 80s voices. Too bad he died young.
Chestnuts roasted by spaz307 @ 03/12/2006 01:26 AM EST

trajeal, kidneyboy-
Stephen King has to be one of the world's greatest living authors, beyond just the commercial success.
The Stand was brilliant. To this day I still sometimes daydream about how I'd handle it if almost everyone died but I survived. It's morbid, but also fun. What would you do if no one would stop you from doing whatever you wanted? I think I'd find a generator and play video games. That, and I would get myself a classic Mustang. After all the gasoline was gone/jelled, I'm not sure.
The Dark Tower series was just awesome. When the final book came out, I started reading after I got home from work that Friday and didn't stop until Saturday afternoon- no sleep, no food, and I took it with me to the bathroom and went one-handed. What a mess!
I almost wish he actually had retired after that book, like he talked about. It would have been an incredible end to a wonderful career. As it is, I don't expect to find DT references in books from now on, which is kind of sad. That was part of the fun of SK- reading his other books and making predictions with my buddy Jon on what would happen in the next DT book. His stuff after DT can't possibly live up to that standard. I read "Cell" and it was only okay, not great.

Should have refreshed again before posting! Indeed, Matt has me pegged...besides Clancy Brown I'd have to say my fav voice actor is Carlos Alazraqui (Rocko, Camp Lazlo, Mucha Lucha). Mel Blanc, of course...Yeardley Smith...Can I count Andy Serkis? Ooh, Steven Blum (Cowboy Bebop) too!

Probably the munchkin-sized skull I shoplifted from the "Pirates of the Caribbean" shop in Disney World when I was 15. I drilled a hole through it, put it on a chain, and wore it as an ovesized pendant for years. There was a remarkable amount of street-cred attached to that thing among the other fifteen-year-olds.
I still have it somewhere, and it reminds me that...well...that there was a time when I would do things like steal a miniature skull from Walt Disney and wear it to a Nuclear Assault show.

I'm actually from Steven Kings home town. When ROTJ special edition opened in theaters while I was waiting in line I saw him go into sling blade. Then a few years later I neglected to hold a door open for him at a pharmacy because I didn't recognize him at first. Guy makes 22 million a year in book sales and I didn't hold the door open
.
It was right after that guy hit him with a car. He had a black cane that was all gnarled like the Emperors. His house is usually the balls at halloween.

My most prized possession is either my childhood VHS collection or the box of photos/cards/books from when I was a kid that I have all together in case I have to run out in a fire.

My most prized possession is a ring that belongs to my fiancee. She gave it to me when we first met, and ive worn it around my neck every minute for the last 4 1/5 years.

You did better than I did, Matt. I only managed to stay up til about 1:30am. Thus I prevented burning anything or breaking anything. Well, a small crack in the dress of my Cupcake doll. I swear the Tonka versions weren't this hard to flip around!
One of these days I want to go to a non-anime con! If only I wasn't cursed with such a terrible sense of direction I might actually accomplish that. I'm only about 60mi from Philly and I never ever ever ever go because I've got myself convinced I'll get lost, stranded, robbed, gang-raped, and murdered. I was to the East Coast Gaming Expo, but that doesn't really count as it's run by my older brother.

Yesterday was my B-Day. YAY! A big thanks to the group that took me to the Olive Garden. You know who you are. Tour of Italy was the bomb.
My most prized posession is a 1981 Ferrari 308gtsi that I inherited from my father. The car is off the road in storage right now. It's sky blue with blue leather interior. Its the Magnum P.I. car. Dad - Thanks.

Ok, coming more of a nineties kid than an eighties kid, JIM CUMMINGS is my favorite voice over artist. He's done everything.
He's the modern day Winnie the Pooh and Tigger (bad example, but listen). He was ZUmmi Gummi. He was Monterey Jack and Fat Cat in Rescue Rangers.
He was Razoul in Aladdin, which is an awesome movie.
Look him up, he's probably the voice of one of your family members.

Lorenzo Music! How could I forget.
kb, if you have Netflix try renting some Sopranos DVDs and see if it's your thing. If you're already a gangster movie fan it's an easy sell but there's a lot more to recommend it besides the Mafia angle (great writing, acting, cinematography and so on. IMO it has some of the best acting performances ever, and not just within the limits of tv drama). Only 7 hours 41 minutes until new eps...which means I have less than 8 hours to finish this paper before absolute flaming panic sets in.

I dunno. Maybe all of my graphic novels and TPB's. I count them all as one possession.
Or maybe the older of my two drawing tables.
It's all tricked out with two giant trays, a pencil stop and lamp, plus I attached a drawer organizer and mounted an inkwell. Pimp-ed out, i tell ya.

Most prized possession? My geeky bookshelf, filled with DVDs, manga and Star Wars books. My other bookshelf is perfectly normal, representing my more ordinary tastes, like Stephen King, Anne Rice, V.C. Andrews and those cute kid books I still secretly pick up at used book sales at the library and yard sales. Maybe not so ordinary? XD

I would have to say that my prized possessions are my Richard Simmons LP (yes, the man recorded an album and it is the most godawful thing ever...gotta love it!) and my Tim Curry LP collection. All three of his solo albums from the late seventies and early eighties! Both the Richard Simmons LP and the Tim Curry LPs are featured prominantly on my wall of shame. Awsome!

I do the rock, rock, rock!
I have a live Tim Curry concert from 1979 somewhere...it's got some good shit on it, but I've never actually heard his studio albums.
Tim Curry has also done a shitload of cartoon voices!

I've never really given much thought to this... but off the top of my head I'd have to say that it's my Legend of Zelda DVD set. Such a fun show.

I guess I missed the SNT. Oh well. Most prized possession? Easy. My Space Cases tapes. My situation is actually quite a bit like Lori's, but SC tops them all, also above all my books, photos, other sentimental items, things that are worth money, all of it. The sentimental stuff would be number two though, and I can't choose one specific thing from all of that.

Easy, the remote control to my TV, and my blue shades.
Also, I was in NYC yesterday for a scavenger hunt as a huge pledge event (If you remember from a month ago), and we (theres 8 of us) mostly were around time sqaure. Didn't see Spidey Bum, but we DID get the Big Apple Guy to curse at us. I also saw the Expedition Everest ad, too.
But here's my story that I'd like to share:
One of our things we needed was a pic with an FDNY worker & his turck, and as we were posing for the pic, a midget walks by. (BTW, we also needed a pic of us with a midget) So when the midget walks guy, one of my fellow pledges yells out "holy crap, a Midget just walked past us!" but loud enough so everyone within 10 feet heard us, especially the midget. He then gets awkward and runs after him saying "I'll give you $5 if you'll take a picture with us!" and the midget basically goes "Good goingm you fucking jackass!" and runs off in a huff. This all happened in front of the FDNY guy, and probably a good group of people, and the FDNY is cracking up at this, and I was standing next to the guy who said it, and I was laughing for 5 minutes straight. Needless to say, we got a pic with a different midget.
And then later on in the day, he basically does the same thing with another pic target, the rare White Cabbie. Same setup, we were about to pose for a pic, then a cab with a white driver stops at a light, and he yells out "Holy crap, its a white cabbie!" loud enough for everyone to hear him and then runs up to him, and the cabbie goes "Nice going, jackass!" and zooms off. Same result, actually found another white cabbie and got a pic from him.
Just 1 more week and it's all over @_@

Sorta off topic: I cry foul that Pound Puppies, Megos, wrestling figures, and no superhero toys (unless you count TMNT, He-Man, and Transformers as superheroes) made VH1 100 Toy List.

Prized anything: Wife.
Prized thing: 1968 Jeepster Commando, you'd have to experience it.
I've been playing a lot of Settlers of Catan lately. I got my bum handed to me twice tonight, but came back in the third. Knights and Cities expansion is crazy, too, but even crazier in German...cause my German still isn't that great.

My Pound Puppy, but it wasn't the store version. My grandma bought a pattern kit and made me one on her sewing machine. I named it Honesty for some bizarre reason, as I was one of the world's biggest fattest liars as a small child, and I have never had the heart to put him away. Most people who come over are polite enough not to ask why a 26 year old man has a morose looking stuffed dog sitting in a chair in his living room.

I have so many awesome things... a great home, two dumb cats, a big TV, bootleg DVD's of Spiderman and his Amazing Friends, lots of Star Wars toys, and a huge collection of Batman comics... buy I have to say that the best "thing" I have is knowing that if it were all taken away, and all I had left was my wife and two cats, my life would still be ... to quote Master Shake... "pretty bitchin'".

Other than that, maybe my neice.
